NPP WOMEN'S ORGANIZER DISTRIBUTES FACE MASKS IN BEREKUM The Berekum East Constituency Women's Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mrs. Enestina Asiedu Frimpong also known as Efiritete has distributed face masks to communities in Berekum East Constituency to fight the spread of Covid-19. She seized the opportunity to also educate the communities on the preventive protocols given by Ghana Health Service. Residents of Kotaa, Akrofro, Mpatasie, Pepaase and some markets in Berekum benefited from her kind gesture. Speaking to them, she made it known that the only way to overcome the virus is regular hand washing with soap under running water, application of hand sanitizers, observing social distancing and wearing of face mask. Mrs. Frimpong made a passionate appeal to parents to keep an eye on their children and teach them to follow all the preventive protocols in order to stay safe from the virus. Zongo youths will not be seen anymore in political violence according to Berekum East NDC caucus coordinator.

ZONGO YOUTHS ARE NO MORE POLITICAL VIOLENT. Two MP's and 13 others tested positive for Covid 19

Two MP's and 13 parliamentary staff test positive for COVID 19. Two members of Ghana’s Parliament and 13 staff of the lawmaking chamber have tested positive for COVID-19 after results of voluntary testing requested by the Speaker trickled in, Starr News has learnt. It is unclear the identities of the affected MPs. Starr News sources say the results started coming in from last week. Following the development, the Speaker has ordered for mandatory testing of all staff and members of Parliament. The move is to ensure effective contact tracing since MPs interact among themselves often. The Speaker has however assured the results of the testing will be highly protected. BRIEFING BY THE BONO REGIONAL MINISTER ON THE COVID-19 FIRST CASE IN THE BONO REGION Since receiving an alert from the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic, on January 23 2020, the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Committee have jointly implemented a range of preventive measures in relating to pandemic preparedness and response – key among our activities has been inter-agency coordination, laboratory testing, case management and infection prevention, social mobilization and risk communication, and enhanced port surveillance. 2. The Bono Region recorded its first suspected case of Covid 19 on the 9th March 2020. We have nonetheless investigated 583 suspected cases, taken 202 samples and received the results of 128 samples, one of which tested positive for Covid 19.  The outstanding samples yet to be received are 74. 3. A survey conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service in April, 2017 indicates that Berekum in the Bono Region emerges as one of the towns to receive most, among 6 municipalities and districts nationwide including Techiman Municipality, Nkoranza South in the Bono Ahafo Region and  Mampong Municipal, Sekyere Kumawu, Asante Akim North also in the Ashanti Region. The survey however showed GHC 9,177.10 as remittance in 12 months. All these monies were received by citizens of Berekum through some financial institutions in the town. Quite apart from the monies received as remittance, there are other people and institutions who also transact businesses with the banks in the town since Berekum is known to be the business hub of the Bono Region. BEREKUMMAN CITIZENS ASSOCIATION DONATES GHC 5000.00 TO A CEREBRAL ABSCESS PATIENT. Berekumman Citizens Association a non-profit organization in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region has donated an amount of Ghc 5000.00 to support a 12 years old boy to undergo surgery. Abeiku Griffith was in need of Ghc 3,500.00 to undergo cerebral abscess surgery. Presenting the money on behalf of the association, Chairman of the Berekum Chapter of the Association, Professor Daniel Obeng Ofori explained that, the association was formed to enhance the development of Berekum and that, helping those in need financially is also part of development.
