GoldBod Joins National Sanitation Drive, Cleans Makola Environs. Management and staff of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), led by Deputy CEO Richard Nunekpeku, Esq, joined the nationwide sanitation exercise initiated by President John Dramani Mahama following the June 29 floods.  The team cleaned the GoldBod Headquarters and surrounding areas, including the Ghana Library Authority, SIC Mall, and parts of the Makola Market enclave, reaffirming GoldBod’s commitment to environmental cleanliness, public health, and national development. European Union (EU) Commemorates 50 Years Partnership With Ghana in Tree Planting Exercise. As part of the 50 year celebration of the EU-Ghana partnership, the occasion has been marked with a cycling race event from the Northern part of Ghana through to the Savannah region and to the capital city of Accra. Along the stretch from Tamale to Sunyani, Kuamsi and Accra a number of 1000 trees will be planted across every city in the wake of the cycling race to observe the occasion. At the Sunyani St. James SHS and Seminary campus, the EU-Ghana partnership team took a turn to plant some trees in the school campus to commemorate the 50th anniversary with the Bono Regional Minister together with the Sunyani East MCE, German and Nederland Ambassadors to Ghana including reps from the Forestry Commission. ASUOKOW RESIDENTS DECRIES GALAMSEY DESTRUCTION OF WATER SOURCES, PLEADS FOR SUPPORT. Residents of Asuokow in Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region, are calling on the government, stakeholders, and NGOs to intervene as illegal mining activities have devastated their vital water sources. The community reports that the once pristine Asuokow river, their primary source for domestic use, has been severely polluted and rendered unusable The water bodies have lost their original colour due to the work of galamseyers, which has caused serious distress to the community. Wenchi Residents defy rain to join clean Wenchi '24 Exercise. Residents, station boys, youth groups and religious bodies in their hundreds on Saturday morning defied heavy rains to join the 2nd edition of clean Wenchi '24 exercise organized by Osagyefo Ampem Anyye Amoampong Tabrako III, the Omanhene of Wenchi Traditional Area of the Bono Region. The exercise was under the theme " Tradition Meets Transformation: A clean Wenchi for a prosperous future". The crowd followed the Omanhene to weed, clean, sweep and distillted gutters along the major stress in Wenchi township amidst "Apo) songs and dancing. The crowd followed Osagyefo Ampem Anyye Amoampong Tabrako III, the Omanhene of Wenchi Traditional Area throughout the exercise and not even the rain falling stopped their continues outpour on the streets. FOREST DEGRADING: FOUR BEFORE COURT OVER ILLEGAL LOGGING IN THE FOREST RESERVE. The Sunyani Forest District of the Forestry Commission has hauled four people before the Fiapre Circuit Court over illegal logging in the forest reserve. The four people are Prince Owusu, Solomon Ransford , Johnson Berko and one Ebenezer who are before the court over alleged illegal logging in the Ayum plantation area of the Amaama forest reserve. Mr. Francis Brobbey the Sunyani Forest District Manager in an interview said, the four were arrested during the time they were illegally cutting 45 of the Cinderella trees which cost over 146,000 Ghana cedis. He said the court will reconvene on the 27th of this month to continue the case since the accused told the court they are not guilty. Berekum East Municipal Assembly Marks 39th Farmers Day Celebration at Kutre No. 2. Berekum East Municipal Assembly today marked its 39th Farmers Day Celebration at Kutre No.2 where several farmers including women were awarded to mark the occasion. Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman for the occasion, Kotaahene and Adontenhene of Berekum Traditional Area, Osaberima Kwaku Baa Brintu II commended the farmers for their hard work. According to him, Berekum was established out of farming therefore, the people should all understand to practise farming by every family in Berekum and encourage the youth to get involved in farming rather than to indulge in any other illicit activities that do not bring glory to their lives. The MCE of Berekum East Municipal Hon. Kofi Adjei also emphasised the need to protect the environment from bushfires as we are getting close to the dry season hence urging the farmers and everyone to avoid sending fire to the farm in the dry season.      ...
