European Union (EU) Commemorates 50 Years Partnership With Ghana in Tree Planting Exercise.
As part of the 50 year celebration of the EU-Ghana partnership, the occasion has been marked with a cycling race event from the Northern part of Ghana through to the Savannah region and to the capital city of Accra.
Along the stretch from Tamale to Sunyani, Kuamsi and Accra a number of 1000 trees will be planted across every city in the wake of the cycling race to observe the occasion.
At the Sunyani St. James SHS and Seminary campus, the EU-Ghana partnership team took a turn to plant some trees in the school campus to commemorate the 50th anniversary with the Bono Regional Minister together with the Sunyani East MCE, German and Nederland Ambassadors to Ghana including reps from the Forestry Commission.
Speaking at the tree planting exercise, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akoboah explained that, he prays EU-Ghana partnership will continue to boost the strength in their parteensshio and the trees planted will be nurtured to ensure they live to serve it's purpose of achieving tree for life project.
On his part the Deputy Bono Regional Manager for the Forestry Commission, Mr. Emmanuel Antwi emphasized that, protecting the environment is very essential and the awareness being created by the EU needs to be supported in the area of tree planting and believes this is the drive everyone must come on board to support since if the last tree dies, everyone will die.
The Sunyani District Manager of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Ishmael Boakye Agyemang added that, the tree planting exercise by EU-Ghana is to strengthen the partnership between Ghana and EU for the past 50 years.
He urged everyone to have the habit of tree planting whenever the need arises for us to plant trees to protect the environment.
The German Ambassador to Ghana also commended the effort to plant trees in the school and believes this is a very loudable initiative to protect the environment.
From Sunyani, the team continues to Kuamsi by road with a team of bicycle riders campaigning on the sustainability of climate change.
