Tain District hospital: Ideal for regional status.

Since its commissioning in 2021, Tain District Hospital has chalked some monumental recognition in health care delivery.

The Tain District Hospital in the Bono Region has been adjudged as a best-performing district-level hospital in the region for the facility's impressive healthcare delivery.

The hospital received significant acknowledgement at the 2024 Bono Regional Health Services Excellence Awards during the 2024 Annual Performance Review Meeting organized by the Regional Health Directorate in Sunyani.

Among the awards, Mr. Samuel Justice Tiah received the Most Outstanding Staff at the primary level, while the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako won the Leadership Excellence Award at the primary level.

Additionally, the facility was adjudged the best-performing facility from the 2024 Annual Peer Review Excercise.

In 2024, Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako was adjudged the 2nd Runner-Up at the district level in the National Leadership Excellence Awards organized by the Ghana Health Service in Accra.

In addition, the hospital received the Institutional Excellence Award as the 2nd Runner-Up for Primary Level Hospitals.

The 60-bed capacity hospital serves the people of Tain and Banda Districts and is working hard at getting an upgrade to a secondary status.

Originally established in 1965 as a health centre, the Ghana Health Service upgraded it to a hospital in 2010.

The hospital was part of the nine Euroget hospitals initiated by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

Outpatient facilities include dental clinics, general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and general surgery.

Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako speaking exclusively to Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark fm, he attributed the hospital's success to the hard work and professionalism of the staff in delivering quality healthcare.

He also noted improvements in hospital equipment and staff dedication, citing the hospital's effectiveness.

According to the medical superintendent, the hospital organized free health screenings for beneficiaries through sponsors in 2024, making the hospital an ideal facility to seek treatment.

Despite these giant strides, the facility is without a single official vehicle.

This, according to the Medical Superintendent, is a major hindrance to effective service delivery as drugs and non-medical consumables are transported via public transport to the facility.

Staff also have to resort to public transport to go on outreaches irrespective of how remote these communities may be.

Dr. Taah-Amoako commended the hospital staff for the hard work and appealed to the government to consider upgrading the district health facility to Bono Regional Hospital.

He contended that upgrading the facility would  serve as a referral centre, increased human resources, and improved the hospital's infrastructure.

He emphasized the relentless support from stakeholders, including chiefs at Nsawkaw, which can not be overlooked.
