Berekum West MP Seeks Answers from Road Minister on Berekum Roads.

Berekum West MP Seeks Answers from Road Minister on Berekum Roads.

The Member of Parliament for Berekum West, Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah, affectionately called Stugard, has posed urgent questions about the state of Berekum-Sampa-Jinijini poor roads in his constituency and plans to rehabilitate them.

The Berekum West MP's questions seeking answers from the road minister on the floor of Parliament on Friday are considered as key and timely, given the deplorable state of the roads.

Responding to the question, Road Minister Kwame Agbodza explained that the 119km Berekum-Sampa-Jinijini road traverses Berekum East and West, Berekum West, Jaman South and Jaman North constituencies, connecting the Bono and Ahafo Regions to Cote D'Ivoire

According to the minister, an 80km section of the Berekum-Sampa Road has been awarded for rehabilitation, funded by consolidated funds.

Governs Kwame Agbodza highlighted that the contract was awarded on December 11, 2024, with a duration of 48 months; however, the project has yet to commence.

Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah, unconvinced by the response, pressed the roads and Highways Minister for further clarification on plans to complete the road.

He emphasized the road's significant economic role in Berekum, connecting it to Sunyani and the Ahafo region at large.

Hon. Stugard also highlighted the road's deplorable condition, citing dust and its terrifying nature, as well as the suffering residents endure.

In response, Kwame Agbodza sympathized with residents who use the road, acknowledging its strategic importance.

The minister expressed displeasure over the project's delayed start, considering the significant funding involved approximately GHs800m funded by the government of Ghana.

However, the road's minister assured his commitment to engage the contractor to determine a start.

Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza expressed shock at the past NPP government to award the road contract just after losing the 2024 general election.

Speaking exclusively with journalists in parliament, Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah revealed that the first administration of President John Dramani Mahama constructed those important roads with a first coat but unfortunately abandoned them by the NPP government after the change of government.

The Berekum West MP stated that economic activities along the road will witness a significant boost if the road is fixed.

While acknowledging the country's challenges with financial resources, Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah appealed to the road minister to expedite efforts in completing the road projects to improve transportation.
