NDC PC condemns disruption of TV3 community manifesto event at Jinijini by some NPP supporters.

The Office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Election 2024 Parliamentary Candidate in the Berekum West Constituency of the Bono Region has condemned an alleged violent disruption of a live coverage of a community manifesto event at Jinijini, the constituency capital.

The Berekum West Constituency of the NDC said the incident was unacceptable and a behaviour that undermined the principles of democracy, freedom of the press, and the “right of our constituents to be informed and heard.”

A statement issued and signed by Mr Dickson Kyere-Duah, the NDC's Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency said: “The violent disruption of Berekum West TV3 Community Manifesto, which sought to engage our constituents to directly communicate their concerns, suggestions, and aspirations to their elected representatives, is an attack not only on the press but on the entire democratic process.”

The statement, which was copied to the Ghana News Agency, said such actions by the MP and the officials of the ruling party constitute a grave insult to the rights of citizens and media institutions.

“Violence has no place in our politics, and leaders who resort to such tactics demonstrate a lack of respect for the people they are supposed to serve,” the statement said.

It added: The people of Berekum West deserve a representative who is committed to peaceful dialogue, constructive engagement, and the protection of democratic rights, not one who silences debate through intimidation and aggression”, the statement indicated.

It reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the parliamentary candidate to prioritize community engagement and dialogue, ensuring that the voices of all constituents were heard and that their concerns addressed.

“Together, let us reject violence and build a Berekum West that thrives on peace, openness, transparency and progress,” it stated, saying, “together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Berekum West.”
