Kato-Nentene Family Fights Berekum East Municipal Assembly Over a Re-develop Land at Berekum Roundabout.

Kato-Nentene Family Fights Berekum East Municipal Assembly Over a Re-develop Land at Berekum Roundabout.

A number of Nentene Family Members at Kato in the Berekum East Municipal of the Bono Region are in cup and arms with the authorities of Berekum East Municipal Assembly over land that the Assembly has been earmarked for re-development for a car park close to the Berekum roundabout.

Speaking to Madam Joyce Addae Boakye who spoke on behalf of the family said, that the land that the Assembly wants to develop belongs to their family and they were not consulted for such a development on the land, meaning their land is taken from them as a family.

She explained that the said land around the roundabout was given to their forefathers Nana Baanie who later handed over the land to Nana Kwakye who was then serving the Berekum chief and the land has been in their possession till now.

According to her, the land has now been fenced for redevelopment but said the Assembly did not consult any member of the family but has forcibly taken it from them. She added that they are demonstrating to raise an alarm to fight for their right since the land belongs to the family and nobody can take it from them without their consent.

Madam Joyce Addea Boakye the lead person for the family who led some family members on the land demonstrate, poured two bottles of schnapps to scare any developer who has been assigned to develop the car park.

The Berekum East Municipal Assembly Engineer Mr. Adu Boateng speaking on the issue explained that, the said land close to the Berekum roundabout has not just been taken away by the assembly but they are developing it to beautify the center of Berekum and use that place as a car park to enable cars that are parked in front of Banks and on the roadside to have a spacious place to park to avoid any unforeseen circumstances that may occur around the area in the future.

He added that the Assembly do not have any problem with the family but will ask the family to produce their document to prove if the land they are talking about belongs to them since the Assembly cannot sit down to see a land that can be used to develop the town should left abandoned.
