Berekum College of Education Ends 16 Days Orange Anti Sexual Harassment Campaign

BEREKUM COLLEGE OF EDUCATION ENDS 16 DAY ORANGE ANTI SEXUAL HARASSMENT CAMPAIGN.

Berekum College of Education (BECOLED) in the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region has today 10th December 2019 ended its 16 days anti sexual harassment campaign. The campaign which started on November 25th was to demonstrate the College's zero tolerance for sexual harassment.

The campaign is to enhance strategies to create an enabling environment on campus against sexual harassment.

Speaking to Alrich24newsgh.com, the Vice Principal of the college and chairman of the anti sexual harassment committee, Mr. Justice O.D Fenteng said, "the college has undertaken this initiative of zero tolerance of sexual harassment in the school, to combat any kind of unforeseen circumstances that may be referred to as sexually harassment".

He commeded the students for their cooperation to promote the campaign and said throughout the 16 days, the staff and the students wore orange clothes and decorated the campus with orange peripheral to show their pledge against sexual harassment.

He said the orange campaign was a move to put a stop to any form of sexual harassment on campus. Stickers, banners and identication materials have been position at vantage points to indicate the action to support "say no to sexual harassment".

He explained that a two member committee have been formed on campus by name Safe Space Focal Persons to supervise and handle all actions of sexual harassment and to deal with pepertrators in the institution.

Mr. Justice O.D added that, the entire college has agreed to continue with the zero tolerance  of sexual harassment after the 16 days journey and will use every Wednesday as orange campaign against sexual harassment.
He again called on other schools from basics,  JHS, SHS and tertiary institutions to embrace the move to battle sexual harassment in all educational institutions across the country.

Madam Helen Naa Korkor Ashong a member of the Space Face Focal Persons committee added that the team is well prepared and have the zeal to kill sexual harassment and they will defend anything that will stock the students learning in the college.

She concluded that, they have open their doors to students awaiting them to report any form of sexual harassment they encounter to them.

The students also expressed appreciation towards the school authorities for such a wonderful campaign to end sexual harassment.

They explained that, the 16 days campaign has enlightened their knowledge and understanding towards sexual harassment and they believe the purpose will be achieved.
