Western Nzema Traditional Council President Decries Poor Roads in Jomoro.


The President of the Western Nzema Traditional Council, Awulae Kwasi Armachi III, has expressed dissatisfaction about the nature of roads in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region.


The chief said the road has been a major challenge to the people of Jomoro, and as such, urgent attention is needed on the road.


Awulae Kwasi Armachi III made the observation when the Member of Parliament, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, presented educational materials in the form of scholarships to over one thousand pupils who have qualified to enter into various tertiary institutions.


The road from Samenyi to New Town (Newtown) in the Jomoro Municipality is approximately 25 kilometers long according to local stakeholder and infrastructural descriptions.


The route, which connects the Samenyi Barrier area toward New Town and passes key links such as Jaway Wharf Junction to New Town and Half Assini, has been in a deplorable state, forcing residents and motorists to embark on a series of demonstrations.


The Paramount Chief of Western Nzema said, "The only issue that we are not satisfied with is our roads from Samenyi to Newtown, but I know that she is also talking to me about it and that she will deliver, and I know she will deliver."


“Whoever you send—the person who goes abroad and brings something new is the person you have to send," Awulae Kwasi Armachi III added.


The Member of Parliament, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who is also the Deputy Transport Minister, gave a prompt response to the Chiefs and the people.


She said the contractor should have cut the sod for the construction to begin on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, but had to postpone to the weekend [Friday, September 18, 2026].


Madam Affo-Toffey said the contractor is bringing new machines for the work, and already some of the machines have been stationed at the Samenyi Barrier for the work.


"Thankfully, we spoke to the contractor today. Our road from Samenyi Barrier to Newtown is our major challenge. In fact, whatever I do, that is what people ask, so the contractor has promised to be on site so that we can cut the sod for work to commence."


The Deputy Minister explained that the contractor would first construct one kilometer for President Mahama and the Roads and Highway Minister, Governor Kwame Agbodza, to come and officially cut sod for the project.

BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL ACCEPT EIGHT GAZETTED CHIEFS

EIGHT (8) CHIEFS OF BEREKUM TRADITIONAL AREA GAZETTED AS DIVISIONAL CHIEFS IN BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL. A number of eight (8) Chiefs in the Berekum Traditional Area have performed their oaths of secrecy to be gazetted as the divisional chiefs of Berekum Traditional Council. The chiefs, numbering 8, got their titles as "Osaberima" to be added to their traditional and rulership names.
