Jomoro MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey Sustains Scholarship Initiative for 2026 BECE Graduates.

The pace setter for the scholarship package for candidates of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) who are entering into various second-cycled institutions, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who is the Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, has done it again.

Madam Affo-Toffey, who is also the Deputy Transport Minister, has once again demonstrated her commitment to supporting education in the constituency by providing scholarship assistance to more than 1,000 brilliant but needy Senior High School (SHS) students.

In the year 2025, over 600 BECE candidates received similar support, but the 2026 edition was a banger.

The Deputy Minister began the initiative in the year 2021 when she was not a Member of Parliament, and today, every MP has emulated this initiative. It has now become a major calendar activity for every MP, municipal, metropolitan, and district chief executive, and traditional leader.

The initiative, which is in its sixth edition, brought together beneficiaries from 111 public and private schools across the Jomoro Constituency, offering much-needed educational support to students and helping to ease the financial burden on their parents and guardians.

The initiative is particularly significant for families facing financial difficulties, as the cost of education continues to place considerable pressure on parents and guardians.

By extending support to students across both public and private schools, the program seeks to ensure that financial circumstances do not become an insurmountable barrier to the educational aspirations of deserving students.

Students from every village, town, and city in the Jomoro Municipality received trunks, mattresses, chop boxes, exercise books, and mosquito nets.

In addition to these, female candidates, who formed the chunk of the entire students’ population, received sanitary pads to support their monthly period.

The presentation, held at Bonyere Junction, attracted parents and traditional leaders, including chiefs and queen mothers, dignitaries, constituency executives, and other stakeholders who gathered to witness the continuation of the education support program.

Speaking about the initiative, Madam Affo-Toffey said the scholarship program goes beyond providing financial assistance, describing it as an investment in the future of children in Jomoro.

“For me, this is more than a scholarship—it is an investment in the future of our children and a way of easing the burden on parents,” she said.

“This has come to stay, and even after I have retired, whoever would take after me should be willing to continue and make sure the people of Jomoro benefit, and I am willing to support whoever would succeed me."

According to the MP, one of the greatest sources of motivation for sustaining the program is seeing beneficiaries from previous editions successfully progress to tertiary education.

She noted that the achievements of past beneficiaries continue to inspire her to expand and sustain efforts aimed at giving young people in the constituency the opportunity to pursue their educational ambitions.

Madam Affo-Toffey expressed appreciation to the parents and guardians of beneficiaries, as well as traditional authorities, dignitaries, constituency executives, and other stakeholders who attended the event and contributed to its success.

She reaffirmed her commitment to education and the development of young people in the constituency, stressing that the children of Jomoro represent the future of the area.

“Our children are Jomoro’s future, and I remain committed to giving them every opportunity to succeed,” she said.

The MP also acknowledged the role of God in making the initiative possible, expressing gratitude to God Almighty for enabling the program to reach its sixth year.

The latest edition of the scholarship initiative adds to ongoing efforts to support students in Jomoro and encourage them to remain focused on their education, with the hope that beneficiaries will go on to pursue tertiary education and contribute meaningfully to the development of the constituency and Ghana as a whole.

The Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive, Benedict Boadi, was full of praise for the MP who has consistently supported education in the municipality.

The MCE said due to the good government and good governance by President John Mahama, education in the municipality is also striving, through the MP, Madam Affo-Toffey.

Mr. Boadi said the education sector has received tremendous support from the MP in diverse ways because several school buildings have sprung up in various communities because of the MP.

He said he can attest to whatever the MP is doing for the municipality, and such deserves praise to motivate the MP to do more.

Mr. Boadi therefore declared the month of October as the ‘commissioning month’ since the MP and the support of the assembly would commission several completed projects such as school buildings.
