CORRUPTION FIGHT: BEREKUM EAST MUSLIMS SENSITIZED ON SARIS PROJECT.

The Muslim Community within the Berekum East Municipality of the Bono region has been sensitized on anti-corruption and its related offenses, effects and antidotes.

The event which was put together by GACC, LANet and Citizens Watch Ghana focused on anti-corruption campaign on SARIS Project at Berekum Central Mosque.

Speaking to the Islamic congregants at the Berekum Central mosque, the Executive Director of Citizens Watch Ghana and Focal Person for Berekum East LANet, Mr. Simon Asore explained that, the objective of embarking on the SARIS project is to mobilize, empower and incentivize citizens and citizen groups to actively report and speak against corruption with an effort to help reduce the corruption canker degrading the country.

In his speech, he called on the Imams and the entire Muslims to get involved in the fight against corruption and also have the will and courage to report on corruption whenever they come across such menace in the society, that is the only way to drive it out.

The Berekum East Municipal Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdul Wahab commended CDD Ghana, GACC, Transparency International, Citizens Watch Ghana and LANet for the SARIS project to empower the Muslims on the knowledge of anti-corruption campaign.

The chief Inman emphasized on the fact that corruption has been a struggle the country has been facing which is destroying every sector in the country especially at the education, politics, public and private institutions amongst others.

The NCCE Director of Berekum East, George Yennukon encourages the Muslims to adopt the Muslim lifestyle to shun corruption as the Quran teaches.

He added that, the whistleblowers Act has been established to protect all citizens who may report on corruption and must try as such to report to institutions like the police, chiefs, CHRAJ, OSP, EOCO and other bodies

Some members of the Muslims shared their readiness to report activities of corruption cases among other individuals in both public and private organizations.

The project is being funded by the European Union through the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and facilitated by Citizens Watch Ghana and Berekum LANet

25-Year-Old Young Man Electrocuted in Berekum . A suspected thief by the name Oboshie in his 25 years has been electrocuted at Berekum Nyamebekyere in the Berekum East Municipal of the Bono region . According to eye-witnesses, the suspected thief's lifeless body was found on the food vendor metal container as he attempted to steal from the container of the vendor who operates in a metal container. His death attracted a crowd of the Berekum people to the scene on the street of Nyamebekyere as everyone wants to catch a glimpse of the deceased over the incident of frequent robbery attacks and stealing in the Municipality. BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL ACCEPT EIGHT GAZETTED CHIEFS

EIGHT (8) CHIEFS OF BEREKUM TRADITIONAL AREA GAZETTED AS DIVISIONAL CHIEFS IN BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL. A number of eight (8) Chiefs in the Berekum Traditional Area have performed their oaths of secrecy to be gazetted as the divisional chiefs of Berekum Traditional Council. The chiefs, numbering 8, got their titles as "Osaberima" to be added to their traditional and rulership names. A high court judge, Justice Baayeh, on the 6th day of November 2018, led the chiefs to sworn in the oaths of secrecy before a certificates of recognition was issued to the chiefs as a divisional chiefs. The gazetted 8 chiefs has been granted the opportunity and right to be part of any sittings of the traditional council and by so doing, all the 8 chiefs have been approved by the government of Ghana to be part of the judicial committee of the Berekum Traditional Council.
