POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN GH¢1.1M FAKE GOLD SCAM AT BEREKUM.
1. The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested Gyamfi Christian, 36, in
connection with a suspected fake gold syndicate operating in the Berekum
Municipality.
2. The case was reported by Christopher Awuni, 29, a gold aggregator, who told the
Police that four men claiming to be gold sellers sold to him 110 troy ounces of
gold for GH¢1.1 million in July 2026. The gold was later found to be fake and has
been retained as an exhibit.
3. Following intelligence-led investigations, Police arrested Gyamfi Christian on
17th August 2026 at his hideout in Wamfie in the Dormaa East District. During
interrogation, he admitted involvement in the transaction and disclosed that it
took place at Drobo in the Jaman South Municipality.
4. The suspect identified three accomplices, namely Abraham alias Frenchman, the
alleged leader of the group, Isaac Antwi and Balthazar, who are currently at large.
5. Preliminary investigations have also established that the group allegedly
defrauded another victim of GH¢1.4 million in Drobo earlier this year.
6. The suspect is in Police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are
underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
7. The Bono Regional Police Command urges the public to exercise caution when
engaging in gold transactions and report suspicious activities to the Police.
