Okada Riders Impregnating Our Girls-Queenmother of Ayekokooso laments.

Teenage Pregnancies is on the rampant in the Ayensuano District Ayekokooso community of the Eastern Region. The situation has become so alarming to the extent that traditional authorities have started exploring ways to save their daughters from falling prey to the men. Queenmother for the Ayekokooso, Nana Ofosua Sekyifa has attributed the rise in teenage pregnancies to the proliferation of okada riders and their operations in the community and neighbouring towns.

She was speaking with Alrich24newsgh.blogspot.com news reporter Apelete Kofi Michel, which she says youth groups and other stakeholders on gender and reproductive health.should come to their aid. Nana Ofosua Sekyifa indicated that most of these okada riders have sexually exploited their girls, and disrupted their academics and future life.

In her analysis of what had contributed to the situation, the queenmother said most of these girls are from broken homes, and some others due to parental neglect. She mentioned that the community have abandoned the puberty rituals due to their ‘unholy acts.

She noted that most of these girls are unable to continue their academics and as such end up being dependent on these okada riders, who cannot guarantee any better future for them. As a matter of urgency, I have decided that until a girl child completes her Senior High education, I will not perform the puberty rites for her. They will have to wait. And should they flout this, sanctions will be applied, she warned.

The Ayensuano District was among districts with high prevalence rate of teenage pregnancies in the Eastern Region, the assembly through its Department of Social Welfare and allied agencies, have made a determination to at least cut down teenage pregnancies, and thus improve the reproductive health of these young girls.

She therefore urged the government to come to their aid, all roads in Ayekokooso community links to other communities are very deplorable state, pregnant women are dying, children are dying, farmers find it difficult to bring their farm products to the market due to bad nature of roads in the area.

The queenmother therefore is seeking for the intervention of Ministry of Gender and Social Protection to as matter of urgency come to the aid of the young girls in the area.

25-Year-Old Young Man Electrocuted in Berekum . A suspected thief by the name Oboshie in his 25 years has been electrocuted at Berekum Nyamebekyere in the Berekum East Municipal of the Bono region . BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL ACCEPT EIGHT GAZETTED CHIEFS

EIGHT (8) CHIEFS OF BEREKUM TRADITIONAL AREA GAZETTED AS DIVISIONAL CHIEFS IN BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL. A number of eight (8) Chiefs in the Berekum Traditional Area have performed their oaths of secrecy to be gazetted as the divisional chiefs of Berekum Traditional Council. The chiefs, numbering 8, got their titles as "Osaberima" to be added to their traditional and rulership names. A high court judge, Justice Baayeh, on the 6th day of November 2018, led the chiefs to sworn in the oaths of secrecy before a certificates of recognition was issued to the chiefs as a divisional chiefs.
