NPRA Takes Pension Drive to Nkwabeng Technical Institute, Donates 1000 Exercise Books.


The National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) has extended its youth sensitization campaign to Nkwabeng Technical Institute (NTI) in the Nkoranza South Municipality in the Bono East Region as part of efforts to promote early pension savings and prevent old-age poverty.


The sensitization, led by Mr. Kofi Asare Abrokwah, Zonal Head of the NPRA Kumasi Zonal Office, educated students on the importance of starting pension contributions early.


Speaking in an interview with Fabea FM’s Apiah-Kubi, Mr. Asare said the youth must be encouraged to contribute to a pension scheme once they start earning any form of legal or indirect income.


“This seminar was organized to create awareness about pension sustainability among the students and encourage them to save and invest to secure their future,” he stated.


“We want to catch them young. If we educate students at this level, they will begin to think about securing their future and that of their families through pension contributions,” he added.


He further explained that students who engage in technical and practical jobs can also contribute to a pension, emphasizing that a pension is “an insurance arrangement against old-age poverty.”


Mr. Asare expressed concern that many people are unaware of pension benefits.


“We anticipate that these students will also educate their parents on the need to safeguard themselves with pension schemes,” he said.


In addition to the sensitization, NPRA donated 1,000 exercise books to the school to support students in their academic work.


The Headmaster of Nkwabeng Technical Institute, Mr. Mensah Christopher, commended NPRA for both the education and the donation.


He urged students to take advantage of the opportunity to build a secure future.


“The knowledge acquired from this pension education will help our students live successful lives even after retirement,” he said.


He added that since the students will soon complete their secondary cycle and enter the world of work, “there is a need to secure their lives with the pension drive.”


Speaking on behalf of the students, one student pledged to sensitize peers and friends on the need to start saving at a young age.


“I thought it was only grown people who are entitled to be on a pension scheme, but today has been a significant eye-opener for us to know we can also contribute to our future,” he concluded.

EIGHT (8) CHIEFS OF BEREKUM TRADITIONAL AREA GAZETTED AS DIVISIONAL CHIEFS IN BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL. A number of eight (8) Chiefs in the Berekum Traditional Area have performed their oaths of secrecy to be gazetted as the divisional chiefs of Berekum Traditional Council.
