BELOW IS THE FULL STATEMENT FROM THE BONO EAST REGIONAL POLICE.

GOOD AFTERNOON, DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE PRESS, SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS AND COLLEAGUE OFFICERS.

This press briefing is to update you on some successful arrests which was made following a robbery incident that occurred on Sunday 19th July, 2026 between Portor and Kawampe along the Kintampo / Buipe highway.

On Sunday 19th July, 2026 at 2030 hours, Police Personnel on duty at the Portor Barrier received intelligence that a robbery was in progress between Portor and Gulumpe. Personnel on patrol duty on the stretch were dispatched to the robbery scene.

The four robbers who had stopped a Kia Rhino to rob its occupants escaped into the bush as the patrol team arrived at the scene.

The robbery victim, Yahaya Salifu, identified Abdul Sadat Ali, aged 24, the driver of a Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration No. AS 1541-25 as the one who paved the way for the robbers to rob him of his Three Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis [Gh¢ 300,000.00].

He further stated that Abdul Sadat Ali used his vehicle to block his driver before the robbers robbed him.

Suspect Abdul Sadat Ali was arrested and, upon interrogation, mentioned Samed Issaka, aged 24, the Kia Rhino driver, as the one who contracted him to rob the victim. Samed Issaka was also arrested.

Acting on this information, the counter terrorism team together with the local patrol team, pursued the four robbery suspects in the bush and successfully arrested all four namely, Samad Isaaka aged 24, Faisal Salifu aged 26, Azigri Avoka aged 25 and Stephen Awuni age 20 at Kawampe main road when they attempted to board a vehicle to escape with their booty.

All six suspects were brought to the Kintampo Divisional Police Headquarters for further interrogation.

During interrogation at the Divisional Headquarters, it was disclosed that, Abdul Rahman alias “Opre” was hired by the Kia Rhino driver Samed Issaka, to look for others to rob his employer, Yahaya Seidu who often carries large sums of money to buy cattle at Buipe. Abdul Rahman alias “Opre” also recruited Abdul Sadat Ali alias “Rich” the Voxy driver and Faisal Salifu, aged 26. To get the work done, Sadat also recruited Asigri Avoka, aged 25, and Avoka also recruited Stephen Awuni, aged 20.

After the recruitment, these six suspects initially trailed the victim via the Kia Rhino from Offinso to Kawampe on Sunday 12th July, 2026, but fortunately for the victim and unfortunately for the suspects, their vehicle developed a mechanical fault at Babatorkuma forcing them to abandon the operations without any option.

However, so determined to bring their plans to fruition, they again trailed the victim on Sunday, 19th July, 2026, from Offinso after Samed informed them that his Boss was carrying a huge sum of money on him.

They succeeded in robbing the victim of an amount of Three Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis [GH¢ 300,000].

All the suspects admitted to the Crime during interrogation. After investigation, all the six suspects would be put before a court of competent jurisdiction for the law to deal with them.

It is sad to note that these able young men who are supposed to use their youthful age to explore something meaningful, have rather decided to go into robbery as a source of livelihood.

Let me use this opportunity to sound a word of caution to all criminal elements in the Bono East Region and the country as whole, to find a meaningful job, because they would not find comfort in Bono East Region in particular and in the country as a whole.

I will also want to commend my team at Kintampo led by the Divisional Commander, ACP/Mr Samuel Ghampson, the district officer Supt/Mr. Steven Abanga, the Divisional Crime Officer, DSP/Mr. Adongo Apiiya and all men especially, the counter terrorism team and the patrol team on duty during the period and all other officers and men who in diverse ways ,fiercely pursued these elements and got them arrested.

The Inspector-General of Police Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohunu, through the regional command, expresses his appreciation and gratitude to you all. He has taken notice of your efforts and you would be rewarded accordingly.

As I conclude, I wish to once again assure you that the Police under the able leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohunu, will not allow miscreants such as these young men to take this country to ransom.

To the media, we appreciate your efforts and support in fighting crime together.

May Allah bless the Bono East Region

The Ghana Police Service.

May Allah bless our home Ghana and make it great and strong.

Thank you and may Allah bless us all.
