ASUTECH DESERVES SPECIAL ATTENTION – NEW BOARD CHAIRMAN.

The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Board of Governors of Asuansi Technical Institute (ASUTECH), Dr. Patrick Essien, has called for urgent and strategic investment in the institution, describing it as the foundation of technical education in Ghana and a national asset that must be preserved and strengthened for future generations.

Speaking after his swearing-in as Board Chairman, Dr. Essien emphasized that the history of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana is deeply intertwined with ASUTECH, making it imperative for government, industry, alumni, development partners, and other stakeholders to support its transformation agenda.

“ASUTECH represents the foundation of technical education in Ghana. We must ensure that this historic institution receives the attention, investment, and support required to continue producing the skilled workforce needed for national transformation,” Dr. Essien stated.

A distinguished TVET and STEM expert, founder of Molex Foundation Africa, Space scientist, Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, former research fellow at AIMS Ghana, Dr. Essien pledged to provide visionary leadership to reposition the institution as a centre of excellence in technical and vocational education.

The inauguration of the new Board marks a significant milestone in ASUTECH's journey toward institutional renewal, innovation, and growth. The ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, education authorities, political figures, alumni, staff, students, and development partners who reaffirmed their commitment to the advancement of technical education in Ghana.

Dr. Essien acknowledged the infrastructural challenges confronting the institution and stressed the need for collective action to improve facilities, expand opportunities for practical training, and create an environment that nurtures innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry-ready skills.

According to him, strengthening partnerships between academia, industry, government, and development organizations will be crucial in bridging the skills gap and preparing young people for the future world of work. He further noted that investment in technical education remains one of the most effective pathways to industrialization, job creation, and sustainable national development.

ASUTECH Principal, Mr. Ishmael Arthur, congratulated the newly inaugurated Board and expressed confidence in its ability to provide the strategic direction needed to address the institution's developmental needs and elevate its status within Ghana's TVET sector.

The Board, under the leadership of Dr. Essien, has pledged to champion good governance, accountability, infrastructure development, industry partnerships, and academic excellence as part of a broader vision to restore ASUTECH's prominence as one of Ghana's leading technical institutions.

As Ghana's first technical institution and one of the pioneers of technical education in West Africa, ASUTECH continues to play a critical role in developing the skilled workforce needed to drive national development. The inauguration of the new Board is expected to usher in a new era of transformation, innovation, and renewed commitment to excellence.
