“ASUTECH represents the foundation of technical education in Ghana. We must ensure that this historic institution receives the attention, investment, and support required to continue producing the skilled workforce needed for national transformation,” Dr. Essien stated.
A distinguished TVET and STEM expert, founder of Molex Foundation Africa, Space scientist, Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, former research fellow at AIMS Ghana, Dr. Essien pledged to provide visionary leadership to reposition the institution as a centre of excellence in technical and vocational education.

The ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, education authorities, political figures, alumni, staff, students, and development partners who reaffirmed their commitment to the advancement of technical education in Ghana.
Dr. Essien acknowledged the infrastructural challenges confronting the institution and stressed the need for collective action to improve facilities, expand opportunities for practical training, and create an environment that nurtures innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry-ready skills.
According to him, strengthening partnerships between academia, industry, government, and development organizations will be crucial in bridging the skills gap and preparing young people for the future world of work. He further noted that investment in technical education remains one of the most effective pathways to industrialization, job creation, and sustainable national development.
