The New-Juaben South Municipal Police Command has arrested a suspected serial shop break-in culprit in Koforidua as part of intensified festive-season security operations that also led to the arrest of 28 other suspects for various criminal offences.
Addressing the media on 30th December 2025 at the Municipal Police Command, the Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Ransford Nsiah, said the key suspect, Ibrahim Mutawakiru, aged 33, was arrested in the early hours of Monday, 29th December 2025, after Police patrols foiled a carefully planned series of shop break-ins along Legend Street at the Adwenpa Curtain area.
The suspect, who operates across Hohoe, Nkawkaw, Koforidua, and Accra, had allegedly conducted surveillance in the area for several days before attempting to access multiple shops through their roofing and ceilings.
According to Police, the suspect became trapped in a ceiling after noticing officers on foot patrol and was later discovered when a shop owner reported that his premises had been ransacked. A search of the building led to the suspect’s arrest while hiding above a reinforced concrete ceiling.
Police retrieved several burglary tools and GH¢9,133 in cash, all of which have been retained as exhibits.
Superintendent Nsiah further disclosed that the broader security operations across the municipality resulted in the arrest of 28 youths at identified crime-prone areas. The suspects were picked up for offences including gambling, narcotics use and trafficking, and the sale of unauthorized pharmaceutical products.
Those found culpable have been arraigned while investigations into others are ongoing.
The Municipal Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining heightened security before, during, and after the festive season.
