Berekum LaNet Engages Basic School Children at Jinijini on Anti-corruption Campaign.
An International Day of Anti-corruption (IDAC) 2025 which was observed across the globe on 9th December, Citizens Watch Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Anti-corruption Coilation (GACC) celebrated the day with school children at Jinijini Presby JHS and Methodist JHS in the Berekum West District of the Bono region.
The theme for this year's anti-corruption campaign was: "Uniting the youth against Corruption, Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity.
Addressing the children the Executive Director of Citizens Watch Ghana and the Focal Person for the LaNet, Mr. Simon Asore emphasised on corruption manifestations such as bribery, extortion, fraud, nepotism, embellishment, conflict of interest and favoritism.
He urged the children to do as much they can to resist, reject and report all corruption practices that they may encounter especially to the police, Headmaster, teacher, District Assembly, CHRAJ district office, OSP, EOCO office, the MP or the traditional authorities to help build a better and fair country.
The NCCE Director of Berekum West District, Madam Adiza Naa Gyengyena explained the importance of reporting corruption related issues to authorities because corruption leads us to lose trust in authorities and systems, at the same time it affects our development.
She said as children they are being empowered to understand their role as responsible citizens to be aware of the common canker that is affecting the growth of the country when people indulge in corruption.
Madam Adiza stressed that, there is a law that protects every citizen who stands up to resist, reject and report corruption and that is the Whistleblowers act 2006 (Act 720).
She explained that the act permits everyone to blow the whistle to the public resources which will help in building a better and a fair country while the offenders are being punished.
The students were eager to learn more of anti-corruption to broaden their knowledge on such matters willing to learn more in the continuous campaigns.
