El Wak Military Recruitment Stamped: President John Mahama Orders Halt of Recruitment Process.

President Mahama orders Military to halt the recruitment process in the Greater Accra Region for investigation into the stampede that led to 6 deaths.

Hundreds of military applicants throned the El Wak Sports Stadium this morning as the Armed Forces began screening eligible recruits.

As early as 6 a.m, in the early hours of Wednesday 12th November, 2025 soldiers on duty had a difficult time controlling the huge number of applicants who had throned the El Wak Sports Stadium.

Within minutes, the numbers doubled and when the gates were finally opened, chaos ensued.

There was a near stampede, prompting the military to order all applicants to return home and report back on Thursday and Friday, depending on the category they applied.

The family members of victims of the ongoing military recruitment stampede that claimed six lives are yet to be officially informed, as the identities of the deceased are still being verified.

What started as a dream come true for many young Ghanaians hoping to serve in the military quickly turned into a nightmare.

Over two thousand applicants queued from the 37 Bus Stop all the way to the stadium, causing massive traffic congestion in the area.

Those who could not make it into the screening center have been asked to return on Thursday, November 13, 14, and 15, depending on the category they applied for.

However, some applicants remain adamant, saying they don’t trust the system and fear being left out.

Soldiers on duty reportedly used what they described as “minimum force” to disperse the crowd but were unsuccessful.

Later in the day, the President of the Republic, John Mahama, accompanied by some ministers and the military high command led by the CDS and service chiefs, visited the 37 Military Hospital, where the injured and the deceased were taken.

Briefing the media, the Commander at the 37 Military Hospital, Brigadier General Evelyn Abraham-Kwabiah, refuted reports that 12 people had died.
