The President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama has again reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s two-term presidential limit, insisting that he will not appear on the ballot in 2028.

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his adherence to Ghana’s two-term presidential limit, stating that his absence from the 2028 ballot will put him in a stronger position to enforce fiscal discipline and curb the perennial election-year overspending that has fuelled cyclical economic crises.

Speaking during a bilateral meeting with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on a three-day state visit, President Mahama decried the practice of incumbent governments circumventing fiscal safeguards to curry favour with voters.

He pledged to hold the line in the run-up to the 2028 polls, stressing: “I will not be a candidate in the next elections and therefore I can hold the line when it comes to fiscal discipline.”

He also highlighted the gains his administration has recorded since his return to office following a landslide victory in the 2024 elections, citing rapid declines in inflation and interest rates, as well as a significant appreciation of the cedi.

Mahama’s remarks contradict claims by members of the opposition New Patriotic Party that he intends to seek a third term after his current and final tenure.

The bilateral talks in Singapore focused on economic cooperation and investment.

25-Year-Old Young Man Electrocuted in Berekum . A suspected thief by the name Oboshie in his 25 years has been electrocuted at Berekum Nyamebekyere in the Berekum East Municipal of the Bono region . EIGHT (8) CHIEFS OF BEREKUM TRADITIONAL AREA GAZETTED AS DIVISIONAL CHIEFS IN BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL. A number of eight (8) Chiefs in the Berekum Traditional Area have performed their oaths of secrecy to be gazetted as the divisional chiefs of Berekum Traditional Council. The chiefs, numbering 8, got their titles as "Osaberima" to be added to their traditional and rulership names. A high court judge, Justice Baayeh, on the 6th day of November 2018, led the chiefs to sworn in the oaths of secrecy before a certificates of recognition was issued to the chiefs as a divisional chiefs. The gazetted 8 chiefs has been granted the opportunity and right to be part of any sittings of the traditional council and by so doing, all the 8 chiefs have been approved by the government of Ghana to be part of the judicial committee of the Berekum Traditional Council.
