World Menstrial Hygiene Day: Berekum West Girl Child Education Unit and Think-Aid Foundation Celebrates the Occassion.

The Berekum West District Education Directorate as part of their effort in promoting girl-child education has on 28th May, 2025 celebrated the World Menstrial Hygiene Day at Jinijini-the District capital of Berekum West District in the Bono region of Ghana.

The event was in collaboration with ThinkAid Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, whose vision is to support the less privileged people in our communities.

Thinkaid Foundation donated packs of sanitary pads to the Girls child unit coordinators during the event to be shared freely to the girls over 200 in attendance.

The cost of buying a sanitary pad has become a major challenge among the school going girls in the district where a number of them were drawn from Senior High Schools to Basic school to celebrate the occasion where they were taught to equip themselves to have a prepared mind on their menstrial hydiene.

Think-Aid Foundation as their benevolent move donated seven (7) full boxes of sanitary pads to the girls during occasion at Jinijini - the, district capital.

Speaking on behalf of Think-Aid Foundation, Mr Amos Obeng who made the donation on behalf of the CEO, Mr Henry Kofi Adane ( Borga 1 ) said, the foundation will keep supporting the girls-child in the district to build them up for better future and he believes this gesture will help the girls in their anticipation of getting pads during their menstrial cycles.

The girls, in recieving the pads, were advised to keep themselves clean and abstain from pre-sexual encounters. They should not seek any support from the boys to buy menstrial pad during menstration.

The Berekum West District Girl Child Coordinator, Mrs. Emelia Gyamfua thanked the leaders of Think-Aid Foundation for responding to their plea. She also called on the parents to support their girl-child in their adolescence age, especially to ensure that they are being provided with sanitary pad so that they will not find themselves wanting and falling into temptation.

The District School Health Education Program Coordinator, Mrs Rita Nana Adjiewaa Achampong also explained that, the occasion was used as an opportunity to educate the girls on the need to be clean during menstration and also to let them know that it is not an abomination to  menstruate as a girl and they should do all they can to keep their menstration hygienenic.
