Suhum MCE Distributes Sanitary Pads to Mark Menstrual Health Day.
The Suhum Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Lydia Obenewaa Sarah has distributed over 1,000 sanitary pads to adolescent female students from a cluster of schools in the Suhum Municipality in Eastern Region.
She said the distribution of the sanitary pads is in fulfilment of the government's promised to supports all school-going menstruating girls to stay clean and healthy. She also announced plans to distributes more sanitary pads within the month.
Menstruation is a normal and healthy part of life for women. Yet, as a normal as it is, menstruationis stigmatized around the world. We hope to change the negative perceptions of menstruation and menstruating girls, Lydia Obenewa.
Hon. Obenewaa sensitized and demonstrated on menstrual health, highlighted essential hygiene practices menstruating girls must observe and urged for strict adherence to avoid infections.
Do not use chemicals to wash your private parts during menstruation period. Change pads regularly wash hands before and after changing the pads to ensure regular bathing" she advised.
She also used the occasion to ensure students on the proper use and disposal of menstruation pads.
Hon. Obenewaa reiterated menstrual health is a fundamental aspect of well-being and many adolescents face challenges to limited access to sanitary pads and inadequate education. Additionally, the party remains committed to advocate for the policies that to support young girls to ensure safer menstrual health.
We stands with women, recognises that menstrual health is a societal demands and must must neeed attention. Together we will continue to taboos, promote education and greater accessibility to hygiene products for young girls across Suhum Municipality.
The school schools visited were, Suhum Presbyterian Senior High School, Suhum Amanhyia Roman Catholic Junior School and Basic, Suhum Kromanteng Municipal Authority Junior High School and Adidiso Municipal Authority Junior High School all in the municipality.
The school heads and the students shown their profound gratitude and appreciations to Hon. Lydia Obenewaa Sarah for the support and asked for more.
