Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition Sensitize Berekum Citizens on Corruption.
The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has embarked upon a corruption advocacy program to sensitised the people of Berekum East Municipal of the Bono Region.
The program which has the aim to promote anti-corruption efforts in Ghana was under the theme, "Strengthening Accountability, Rule of Law and Institutional Responsiveness in Ghana (SARIS).
The sole aims was to promote transparency, accountability, rule of law, and responsiveness in Ghana's governance institutions to root out corruption from Ghana's public and private institutions.
The project which was in partnership with Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), and Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) as well as the Citizen Watch Ghana, funded by European Union.
The call by (GACC) to civil society groups, traditional leaders and youth leaders in Berekum was very loudable to combat corruption with the objectives of deepen citizen's understanding of Ghana's public financial management laws, audit processes and to equip participants to carry out public sensitization and report corruption related issues as and when it happens.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Samuel Harrison Cudjoe was the Programmes Officer at GACC, explained that, the project is crucial for promoting good governance and accountability in country.
According to him, "this will empower citizens to build the capacity of involving themselves in their understanding to promote transparency, monitor public financial management, and to fight corruption", he stated.
He said, strengthen public accountability, rule of law, and responsiveness through civil society empowerment including the media advocacy on anti-corruption reforms" will cure the desire of the public being attempted to practice corruption.
He emphasized that collaborative efforts are essential in fighting corruption, which undermines development, governance, and public trust.
He expressed that the project's expected outcomes include increased citizen capacity to identify and report corruption-related issues, improved transparency, and accountability in governance institutions.
Samuel Harrison urged participants to be confident and trust institutions addressing corruption complaints, stressing that everyone has a role to play in fighting corruption.
He concluded that the project is expected to contribute significantly to promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability in Ghana, ultimately improving the lives of citizens.
Simon Asore is the Executive Director of the Citizens Watch Ghana, explained that, sensitizing the citizens about corruption related cases in public institutions is very critical and it's needs to be enhanced to create understanding in the minds of the general public.
He call on all civil society organisations, heads of government institutions, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to get on board to help fight corruption in state institutions which undermine development in the country.
Berekum Ahenenanahene, commended the organizers for such a programme to educate the residents on anti-corruption campaign and believes this will strengthen the willingness of the public to axed public officials who may invloved in corruption related cases.
