High HIV Prevalence Rate Hit Berekum East Municipal.
The Berekum East Municipal Health Directorate has intensified the campaign against HIV/AIDS prevalence rate among adults in the Municipality.
Bono region leads among the top 5 regions with the highest adult HIV prevalence rate of 2.12 per cent among the total general population in Ghana, which is 333,095 infected people with HIV.
Among the top 5 regions with high adult HIV prevalence rate are Bono, Greater Accra, Eastern, Western North, and Ahafo regions, respectively, a survey conducted by the Ghana Aids Commission has revealed.
Among the districts in the Bono region, Berekum East Municipal tops in the highest HIV prevalence among the 12 districts in the region.
The Berekum East Municipal Health Directorate has intensified the campaign against HIV/AIDS prevalence rate among the adults in the Municipality.
The Municipal Director of Ghana Health Services, Mr Jacob Kojo Aleeba at a press briefing explained that, men sleeping with men and indecent sexual relationship has been some of the factors increasing the HIV new infection cases among the general population, which he underscore the need for quick interventions within the Municipality.
Mr. Aleeba expressed worry over the situation which he said the, lifestyle among the people may be the cause of the high rate in the HIV infections but he also said the health directorate is not relenting on their education campaigns to bring the situation under control.
Speaking to some parents who shared their thoughts emphasised the need for parents to instil discipline in their children.
The Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Private School, Mr Tuah Kwarteng lamented that, parents responsibilities have been rendered to nothing when it comes to moral control of their wards leaving their children to be influenced by their peers hence the high rate of the HIV prevalence.
The spread of the HIV/AIDS has no bounds therefore an advice was given by a lady to her colleague youth to adhere to the preventive measures to protect themselves from contracting HIV infections since they cannot run away from it if they failed to protect themselves.
