At least a total of twenty-four (24) candidates, including 3 women, have successfully filed their nominations to contest the Eastern Regional Council of State election, scheduled for February 11, 2025.


The nomination process, which ended at 5:00 PM last Wednesday, took place at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council.


Speaking with te media after the close of nominations, the Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr. John Appiah Baffoe confirmed that twenty four (24) candidates had successfully met the necessary requirements.


He also noted that out of the twenty four (24) aspirants, only three (3) are women, reflecting the need for greater female participation in leadership roles.


Explaining the election process, Mr. John Appiah Baffoe stated that each of the 33 district assemblies in the Eastern Region will present two delegates, forming an 66-member electoral college. These delegates will be responsible for voting to elect the region’s Council of State representative.


He emphasized the Electoral Commission’s commitment to a smooth and transparent election. We are working closely with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible election on February 11. We expect all candidates and stakeholders to cooperate for a fair process, he said.


The Council of State serves as an advisory body to the President of Ghana, offering counsel on governance and national development matters. The elected Eastern Regional representative will play a crucial role in advocating for the region’s interests at the national level.


With a diverse mix of traditional leaders, politicians, and professionals among the candidates, the contest is expected to be competitive. The winner will succeed the current Council of State representative and serve a four-year term.


All eyes are now on February 11, when the 66 delegates will cast their votes to determine who will represent the Eastern Region in the Council of State.

NSOATRE TRADITIONAL COUNCIL CONDEMNS THE VIOLENCE ACT THAT RESULTED THE DEATH OF KOTOKO SUPPORTER. The Nsoatre Traditional Council has condemns the uncouth behavour of some of the football fans that led to the untimely death of an ardent supporter of Kumasi Asante Football Club.  According to Nsuatre Traditional Council this  unfortunate behaviour happened on the stool land of Nsoatre which the council sees as unfortunate due to the cordial relationship between Nsoatreman and Asanteman which is dated back to 1740.
