Cocoa Farmers Encourage to Adhere to Cocoa Value Chain Standardisation.
As part of the effort of civil society organisations to ensure cocoa production is enhanced in the country, Citizens Watch Ghana, a non-governmental organisation with the support from the Ghana Civil Society Cocoa Platform (GCCP) in thier effort to ensure cocoa farmers are educated strictly on their cocoa business has organized a capacity workshop for cocoa farmers in and around Berekum District of the Bono region.
The lead trainer Mr. Opoku Achampong, the National Organizer of the Ghana Cooperative Cocoa Farmers Association and also the President of "Baakoye" Cooperative Cocoa Farmers Union in the Asante Bekwae, called on the cocoa farmers to ensure Africa Regional Standards are met with the European Union standardisation of cocoa production.
The Berekum District co-operative farmers were encouraged to inculcate the cocoa value chain processes in their cocoa production business to safeguard quality to meet the international standards.
According to Mr. Achampong, Cocoa management systems which have been the key component of cocoa production is what he directed the farmers to adopt to ensure quality cocoa production to avoid Ghana cocoa beans being rejected by the international market.
Mr Opoku Achampong implored the cocoa farmers to stick to the international guidelines in the cocoa sector especially to avoid the use of mosquito nets in the preservation of the cocoa beans making sure the best quality cocoa is produced for the country.
Madam Georgina Henneh who is a woman in cocoa farming in Berekum also assured that, the farmers should adopt climate change practices in their cocoa production since climate has become a major challenge to their cocoa business.
She also advised the farmers to adhere to a major cocoa production practices that will help them enjoy a high yield cocoa.
Agriculture Community Extension Agent for Ayinasu Operating Area, Mr Ashley Amoah expressed much appreciation to the Citizens Watch Ghana for what the farmers have received and believed if the farmers will embrace the training and practice them, Ghana in the next coming years will not drop in the cocoa production in the world market.
