Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition Enlighten First Time-Voters to Vote Based on Policies and Issues in Berekum East.
Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition in collaboration with Ghana Integrity Initiative and the US Embassy has team up to organised a public forum for some students of All for Christ Senior High and Technical School in Berekum East Constituency of the Bono Region on 22nd November 2024.
The program which was facilitated by the Citizens Watch Ghana under the support of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to enlighten the first time-voters on their right to vote based on policies devoid of manipulations and influence.
Ghanaians will on 7th December 2024, will exercise their franchise which some selected schools with first-time voters have been educated to understand the need to vote on issues and policies base.
Some first-time students who will vote were eager to vote come December 7th general elections, adding that, they will never allow their conscience to be manipulated with money and will not entertain vote buying but will vote for the candidate who they believe will meet their criteria to lead the people.
The Berekum East Municipal National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Mr. George Yennekon took the students through all the dos and don'ts of Ghana's elections especially some of the students being first time voters were tasked to exercise their civic right.
He led the students to understand the consequence of vote buying surrounding the elections which is against the laws of the land and some electoral fraud that are being perpetuated by some voters and political actors.
The first time voters were taught about electoral integrity as they must be responsible to caat their vote with integrity without being manipulated with anything.
Electoral irregularities such as double voting, vote buying and vote rigging was among some of the issues the students questioned to get clarifications to keep them informed about how such practices go against the electoral laws.
The students again were instructed to be part of a peaceful elections, free and fair process devoid of no intimidation, violence free and equal level playing ground for all political parties is what everyone must ensure to maintain before, during, and after the elections.
Mr. Simon Asore of Citizens Watch Ghana also advised the first time voters to be law abiding on the day of election and report any suspicious acts of malpractices to the security agencies
