Duasidan Monkey Sanctuary in Need of Investors to Promote Tourism.
Duasidan Monkey Sanctuary which is over hundred (100) years in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono region is gradually losing it's attractiveness to tourists due to inadequate facilities at the site as is in die need of support.
If given the proper and needed attention, there are numerous tourist attractions in the country that have the potential to flourish and promote Ghana internationally.
One of such is the Natural Monkey Sanctuary at Duasidan, a town in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.
The history, mystery, myth, and uniqueness of the Duasidan monkey sanctuary makes it a distinctive natural resource in the country.
Tucked away in a closed forest reserve, it is home to thousands of monkeys in three known species, specifically the campbell monkey or locally known as ‘Kwakuo,’ the spot-nosed monkey (Ahenhema), and the oliver colobus monkey (Asibe), despite its great value, the tousrts attraction site is deserted, lacking the needed attention.
The care taker of the Sanctuary, Opanin Kwabena Kuma said, Duasidan Monkey Sanctuary is a forest reserve which do not have any facilty to boost about to describe the place as a tourist site such as a gust house, restaurant, and befitting place for tourists to rest which has been a major challenge to the sanctuary.
He added that authorities have neglected the site whiles there are many divers monkeys in the forest numbering over 120 harmless male and female in the reserve.
A resident in the town, Kwame Amponsah emphasised on the poor road network to the sanctuary which also been a considerable factor people refusing to patronise the site and called on the authorities to come to the aid of the community but must do something about their road network.
The Chief of Duasidan, Nana Oppong Kyekyeku Ababio II share light about the history of the Monkey Sanctuary and call for private partnership to support the place to help the Sanctuary to thrive as the place cannot be neglected which in return to generate revenue for the development of the area.
