Nkoranza Traditional Council Opposes Mo Traditional Area's Yam Festival Celebration in Kintampo.

Nkoranza Traditional Council Opposes Mo Traditional Area's Yam Festival Celebration in Kintampo.

Nana Awiti Kuffuor II, Kintampo Hene, has expressed strong opposition to the planned celebration of the Yam festival by the Omanhene of Mo traditional area, Nana Kwaku Danquah III, in Kintampo, Bono East Region.

At a press conference held on 25th September, 2024, Nana Awiti Kuffuor II stated that the celebration, scheduled for October 4th to 6th, 2024, contravene traditional and customary practices.

"The 1924 Gold Coast Chieftaincy List clearly indicates that Kintampo is not a Mo town, and we cannot allow this breach of tradition", he emphasized.

The Nkoranza Traditional Council has served the Omanhene of Mo with an injunction to halt the celebration.

Nana Awiti Kuffuor II warned that any government official, traditional leader, or person of high repute attending the festival would be considered joining the suit for contempt.

He clarified that the opposition stems from a commitment to tradition, not prejudice against the people of Mo.

"We have coexisted peacefully for generations and propose a conference to discuss peace, tranquility, and mutual development," he said.

The Kintampo Hene urged the Mo traditional area to respect tradition and accept the invitation to conference.

Residents of Kintampo and surrounding areas have expressed mixed reactions to the planned celebration.

"We understand the importance of tradition, but we also value our relationship with the people of Mo," Nana Awiti stated.

However, our traditions are sacred, and we cannot compromise on them," he added.

The dispute highlights the complexities of traditional governance and cultural heritage in Ghana.

The Nkoranza Traditional Council and Mo traditional area are expected to engage in further discussions to resolve the issue.

The outcome, according to Kintampo Hene, will have significant implications for traditional governance and community relations in the region.
