In an attempt to break a Turkish Guinness World Record holder of 124 hours, Salomey the Read-A-Thon has set a new record to read for 168 hours as she ended her Read-A-Thon world record on Friday night 31st May, 2024.
Salomey Kwabea Adjei is a teacher by profession started her Read-A-Thon Guinness World Record Official attempt on 25th-31st May, 2024 at Sannak Hotel in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region.
Her official attempt of reading for 7 days attracted a lot of diginitries from both far and near including the Bono Regional Minister, Hon Justina Owusu Banahene, the Municipal Education Directorate, Chiefs, CEO of Adwinsa Publications, Students and alma mater.
Speaking to Salomey Manager, Madam Elizabeth Oppong Fosuaa aka Naa Fosuaa said, Salomey teaches in a village and that has inspire her to undertake the marathon to boost the moral of teachers teaching at the rural communities of Ghana and has a vision to read and motivate women across the country to encouraged them to exposed to their dream talents.
She added that, after the Reader-A-Thon attempt, she will do her best to embark upon rural library project in the rural communities to also support the children living in the rural areas to have access to books so that they can also have a place to read.
The Chief linguist of Fiapre Traditional Council, Nana Fosu Gyeaboah, speaking on behalf of Fiaprehene, Professor Kyem-Amponsah said, the chiefs of Fiapre are behind Salomey since she is the daughter of Fiaprehene.
He said, the Read-A-Thon attempt will boost the confidence of student and most people who may have the opportunity to witness the official attempt of Salomey Read-A-Thon is coming to an end.
He promised the Faipre Traditional Council will rally behind her even after the attempt because Salomey is pattern the step of her father, Obrempong Professor Kyem-Amponsah II who also because the believe he has in education has instituted education festival within the Fiapre enclave.
Salomey Read-A-Thon official attempt started reading the Bible, some other books including Ivone Nelson book, Juliet Ibrahim book, History of Ghana among other books.
