Construction of Berekum Modern Conference Hall to Replace the 1949 Delapidated Cultural Center Begins.

The Bono Regional Minister Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene, together with the Berekum East Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kofi Adjei, the Memeber of Parliament of Berekum East Constituency, Hon. Nelson Kwaku Kyeremeh and the Acting Traditional Council President, Osaberima Yeboah Darteh has cut sod for the construction of an ultra modern conference hall with offices to replaced the dilapidated 1949 cultural center in Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region. 


Speaking at the Ceremony, the MCE of Berekum East, Hon. Kofi Adjei explained that, the old cultural center which was constructed in 1949 is were it was used for the Berekum Secondary school which he was the first School Prefect (SP) at then and is a joy for him as MCE now cutting sod to construct a modern conference hall at the place he was a school prefect under the phase 4 and 5 of the Secondary city support project funded by the World Bank.



He said the new edifice when completed will boost the socio-economic business activities in the Municipality and commended the traditional authorities for their support to see the transformation of the Berekum town.


The MP of Berekum East, Hon. Nelson Kwaku Kyeremeh also said, urbanisation is a social canker which the government through the support of the World Bank working towards it to reduced hence the plan to build a modern conference hall for the people of Berekum. Accorsing to him, the people of Berekum has benefited a lot from the NPP government and believes this ultra modern conference hall will be one of a kind in both the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East regions respectively. 


He added that, the conference hall with offices is strategically position and when completed will be a place to host all kinds of events and occasions for the people of Berekum other than to look elsewhere which in turn will project the image of Berekum thereby increasing economic growth of in the town.


The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu Banahene on her part stated that, development is a continuous approch therefore the government is helping to build Berekum to a standard that will bring transformation to the people. 


She said, the construction of the new edifice to replaced the old cultural center when finish will also boost the desire among the youth to learn more about our tradition and culture in the society. 


The Acting Berekum Traditional Council President, Osaberima Yeboah Darteh also revisited the history behind the old cultural center which has necessitated the need to replace it after it construction since 1949.


He commended the government for it support towards the people of Berekum when it comes to development and believes this project will boost the image of Berekum. 


The sod cutting ceremony was not only on the cultural center but also a construction of storage facility and market shields will be constructed for market women at Berekum Central Market.
