YAMFO COLLEGE OF HEALTH TEIN LEADERSHIP CALLED ON THE GOVERNMENT TO PAY OUTSTANDING TRAINEE ALLOWANCES.

YAMFO COLLEGE OF HEALTH TEIN LEADERSHIP CALLED ON THE GOVERNMENT TO PAY OUTSTANDING TRAINEE ALLOWANCES.

The leadership of Yamfo College of Health TEIN has expressed their displeasure regarding the ongoing issues surrounding the payment of allowances to health trainees by the government.

According to the leadership, It is disheartening to note that the government owes health trainees two (2) years of allowance despite the sugar-quoted promises made after several engagements with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance yet, there has been a failure to fully honour these commitments.

They added that they are aware of the efforts made by the executives of the Ghana Midwives- Nurses Trainee Association engagement with the Ministry of Health and the Finance Ministry to address this matter but it is disappointing that the recent payment made on the 23rd of November, 2023 only covered 2 months of the arrears and was distributed to only 40% of the student population.

The Leadership of Yamfo College of Health TEIN disclosed this in a Press Statement issued to the media in Sunyani.

It is important to set the record straight that the government has not fully paid all the arrears owed to nursing trainees, as there are still students in their third year who have not received any payments since their first year, They stressed.

The leadership said the amount owed to some students is as high as GH₵7940.00, and it is unacceptable for the government to only offer a fraction of this amount as a token payment next year.

They urge the government to honour its commitment to the trainees and ensure that all outstanding allowances are paid in full without further delay because the government needs to uphold its responsibility to these students and provide them with the financial support they are entitled to receive.

As an association, we stand in solidarity with the trainees and will continue to advocate for their rights and fair treatment. We call on the relevant authorities to address this issue urgently and fulfil their obligations to the health trainees. They said.
