NATIONAL PENSIONS REGULATORY AUTHORITY COLLABORATED WITH THE AHAFO TVET DIRECTORATE TO ORGANISE A DAY SEMINAR FOR INFORMAL ASSOCIATIONS.
The National Pensions Regulatory Authority in collaboration with the TVET Directorate in the Ahafo Region has organised a day seminar for workers and associations in the informal sector in the region.
Speaking at the seminar, the National Pensions Regulatory Assitant Manager and Head of Corporate Affairs in Sunyani, Mr Samuel Baffour Awuah emphasised the need to be enrolled on a pension scheme as a Ghanaian worker. He said Ghanaian workers can be classified into two categories, those working in the public sector and the private sector.
Adding that, those working in the public sector are under the government payroll while those in the private sector work for themselves and in the informal sector.
According to his report, workers working under the government represent 15% of the country's population while 85% work in the private sector.
He said only 6% of the individuals working in the private sector have got their pensions covered during their retirement age leaving 94% without pension cover.
He, therefore commended the TVET Directorate of the Ahafo region for organizing the seminar for the people in the informal sector in the region to educate them as to how they can have much understanding of their pensions scheme.
The TVET Director of the Ahafo region, Mr. Asare Bediako Seth (ABS) expressed his joy after the seminar and thanked the National Pension Regulatory Authority for reaching out to the informal association under TVET in the region.
He said TVET is working to bridge the workers in the private sector in line with the benefits the public sector will enjoy during their old age.
He added that TVET is ensuring that, technical education and training will not only be directed to only those in the classroom but also address issues affecting this in apprenticeship training.
He explained that this kind of training will continue to support the workers of the informal sector to help improve their work in the region.
