Climate Change Crisis and Flooding Caused by the Akosombo Dam Spillage in Ghana.

Climate Change Crisis and Flooding Caused by the Akosombo Dam Spillage in Ghana.

Climate Change Crises must be a major concern of all as the world gradually increasing in the land space naturally.

Most activities we involve ourselves must be a cause for worry if nothing is done about the climate change and the consequences that may arouse out of it.

Ghana in just a recent time in the month of October 2023, the Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated a controlled release of water spillage from the Akosombo Dam which supply Electricity to the country. This measure was taken to safeguard the dam from potential overtopping.

The increased water flow in the Volta River has, unfortunately, led to flooding in low-lying areas along its course, impacting communities such as Mepe, Battor, Sogakope Mafi, Adidome, Ada, and others to suffer a sever havoc in the floods for some more days all due to how we don't take important note of the climate change as people.

Reports from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in Ghana indicate that more than 26,000 individuals were displaced by these floods.

For many, it has resulted in the loss of homes, possessions, and livelihoods. Additionally, the floods have left a trail of damage, affecting vital infrastructure like roads, bridges, and schools.

The Mepe floods serve as a stark reminder of the critical importance of disaster preparedness and response. It underscores the urgency of addressing the broader issue of climate change, which is increasingly amplifying the frequency and severity of extreme weather events.

The flood disaster in the Volta Region has inflicted significant devastation on the communities in its path. Displacement, loss of property, and livelihood disruption have become common experiences. The floods have also left a mark on infrastructure, causing widespread damage to roads, bridges, and educational facilities.

Furthermore, the environmental impact is substantial. Agricultural lands have been inundated, leading to the destruction of crops and livestock. The floods have also raised concerns about water quality and public health due to the release of pollutants into the environment.

The flood disaster in the Volta Region severely damaged communities in its path. Displacement, property loss and social disruption were common experiences. The impact of the destruction is cause for alarm to consider the need to solve problems that relate to climate change crisis and other concern implications.

Moreover, the environmental impact is considerable. Farmland has been flooded, destroying crops and livestock. Flooding has also increased water quality and public health concerns due to pollution entering the environment.

The flood crisis remains a major humanitarian challenge in the Volta Region of Ghana. This resulted in the displacement of thousands and the destruction of vital infrastructure.

A collaborative response is of the utmost importance, ensuring that affected communities receive the support they need to recover and rebuild their lives in the aftermath of this flood.

One major factor has been a relieved items that needs to be supplied to evey affected communities and individuals which is also cost effective in evaluation  and restoration, maintenance of property and livelihoods.

Let's all as a matter of urgency embraced the understanding of climate change to do something about the environment to protect it as much we can in avoidance to bear every cost whenever there is a disaster.
