BEREKUM IS THE LEADING TOWN IN GHANA WHEN IT COMES TO MIGRATION TO EUROPE AS VIS ENDS PROJECT CAMPAIGN AT SENASE.

VIS Ghana, a Non-Profit Organisation which is based in Italy has ended its 9 years project to campaign against irregular migration in Berekum East Municipal of the Bono Region. 


The Organisation (VIS), together with its supporting agencies mandate was to help clamp down the activities of irregular migration amongst the youth in Berekum, therefore, has established an organic soap processing factory and warehouse at Senase as well as training the youth in agriculture to acquire skills in organic farming, rearing of pigs, mushrooms and bees farming,  





Speaking to Nana Owusu Fakyiwaa, the Kyidomhemaa of Senase through her hands VIS came to support the people became the pivot for the construction of the soap processing factory in the community and has become the head in facilitating the progress of work at the factory who also has assisted to acquire land for the local people which was paid by VIS to support the people.


She finally expressed her appreciation to VIS, the Italian Catholic Bishop Conference and Sellesian of Don Bosco for coming to the aid of the people of Senase and the Bono and Bono East regions respectively as a whole and believes this project will go a long to benefit the people of Berekum.

  



Ms Afua Pomaa Anguah Dei, the Assistant Project Manager and Focal Point for Gender Empowerment of VIS also added that VIS focus to help reduce irregular migration in the Berekum Municipality hence the idea of building a black soap processing factory to train the locally based women to empower them to be supportive to them men who may embark upon irregular migration in the various communities.


According to her over 260 women have been trained in soap production while 650 farmers have also been trained in organic farming to help reintegrate the returnee migrants into the society with mini grants and loads in their field of training.


Mr James Wood, who is the VIS Focal Point for Migration emphasised the impact of the migration awareness campaign throughout all these years VIS has had contact with the people of Berekum, especially in the area of irregular migration on one of its campaign slogans #Stop Tratta# which took the people in a photo exhibition of the process people are lured into travelling without following the due process to acquire the requisite document for travelling.





He said, the campaign even though has come to an end does not mean VIS has abandoned the people of Berekum are gone forever, but said they will keep monitoring the situation to find how best they can still support the people of Berekum.


Some of the beneficiaries of the program also shared their appreciation to VIS and its partners as well as the staff for the support given to them throughout all these years to enable them to become entrepreneurs in society.


An Ambassador for the #Stop Tratta# campaign, Richard Adu Manu also known as Opamago Paparichy also encouraged the youth to keep working hard and desist from all attempts to travel irregularly overseas in search of greener pastures.


He commended VIS and the Italian Bishop Conference for their support to redeem the people of Bono and East regions in promoting irregular migration and also finance most of the projects that were running to empower most of the women and returnee migrants.
