Okada Motor Riders Impregnate and Increasing Teenage Pregnancy Among the Girls in Suhum Municipality.

The Director of Girl Child Education in the Suhum Municipal of the Eastern Region, Patricia Asantewaa Osie has said the high rate of teenage pregnancy in the Municipality is the result of Okada motto riders.

She made this statement at Tetteh Nkwanta, a suburb in the Suhum Municipality where teenage pregnancy is rampant.

According to her, the okada drivers are alleged to impregnate soo many teenagers in the Municipality because of some of the financial constraints some of the affected girls go through as a result of school drop.

Information gathered also has it that, some of the parents also took money from the motor riders who impregnate their child and this situation is making it difficult for the education directorate to handle the case.

She also revealed that the okada drivers also rape and defiled these school children because they don't have anybody to report to and the boys always resorted to sexual exploitation.

She added that the education directorate has mounted a strategy to go rounds in the Municipality especially in the rural areas where the okada business is going on to educate the girl child and the parents to report such cases to the police since if care is not taken things will be worse.

She said in one place, an okada driver has pregnant 3 school children and has run away from the community and cannot be found.

She finally urged all the parents in the community to stop buying funeral clothes and invest in their girl child's education in doing that will prevent the girls to be impregnated by the okada riders.
