Mr Abuu Appiah stated that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is a social intervention program introduced by the government to provide financial access to quality health care for all residents in Ghana and those who are on a visit to the country.

According to him, the scheme has exempted a category of people from contributing to the NHIS which includes pregnant women, children under 18 years, indigents, persons with mental disposal of orders and persons above seventy years of age (the elderly).

Mr Abuu Appiah cautioned members to report all disorders and unauthorized payments (co-payment) issues to the Municipal Insurance Office for redress.

He added that his office will never countenance cases of extortion by any accredited NHIS facility of corruption and extortion, a major setback to the progress of the National Health Insurance Authority and they have established a task force to identify all such setbacks that go contrary to collecting money from the subscribers of the scheme the only enemy to bring the works of the scheme down.

He finally explained that this month December is the NHIS month and they have introduced an APP that is “MY NHIS APPs” for the registration of members who are old and new subscribers to sit at the comfort of their homes and work places to register to be enrolled as members or continues member of the NHIS without going to any NHIS office for registration.
