Berekum Municipal Ghana Cocoa Farmers Association Call on Government for Cocoa Price Increase to Ghc1000.00.

Berekum Municipal Ghana Cocoa Farmers Association Call on Government for Cocoa Price Increase to Ghc1000.00.

The Ghana Cocoa Farmers Association together with it's Chief Farmers in Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region have called on the government of Ghana and Ghana Cocoa Board as a matter of urgency to increase the price of cocoa from the current price of GHC660.00 per bag to Ghc1000.00 in the 2022 -2023 cocoa season.

Speaking at a press conference in Berekum, the secretary of the Association, Nana Kwadwo Baobeng said, the high cost of building materials, agro inputs, fuel prices, utility services and transportation fares has brought an untold burden to the lives of Ghana cocoa farmers hence the reason for calling on the government to increase the price of cocoa.

He said, government workers salaries has bee increased to meet the hard economic challenges facing the country and cushioning workers with support such as teachers receiving their COLA allowances and other benefits by the civil servants and neglecting the farmers is highly unacceptable and the only way the farmers can withstand the  current economic challenges is by the government to also increase the prices of Cocoa.

The Chief Farmer of Berekum Municipal and the Chairman of the Association, Nana Kwasi Diawuo also alerted that, government and the Ghana Cocoa Board attention should be drawn to the farmers to something about their livelihood since cocoa farmers as citizens also attend the same market as other citizens do and the government showing commitment to assist businesses to grow whiles Cocoa farmers also wallowing in poverty is unacceptable but deserve the same fare treatment being enjoyed by their colleagues in the public sector therefore the current price of Cocoa per bag should be increased from Ghc660.00 to GHc1000.00 in 2022-2023 cocoa season since what is good for the gender is good for the goose.
