2022 Budget: Gov’t scraps road toll booths. 

The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, has announced the removal of road tolls  booths on all public roads in the country with immediate effect.


He made the announcement in Parliament when he was reading the budget for the financial year 2022.


According to him, the operations of the toll booth on the public roads serves as a “unhealthy market centres” for some traders, a situation which contributes to heavy vehicular traffic, leading to delays and consequently low productivity.


He added “the congestion generated at the tolling points besides resting, creating these inconveniences also leads to pollution in and around the vicinities.”


To address the challenges, Government has abolished all tolls on public roads and bridges.


“Over the years, the tolling points have become unhealthy market centres, led to heavy traffic on our roads, lengthened travel time from one place to another, and impacted negatively on productivity.


“The congestion generated 18 at the tolling points, besides creating these inconveniences, also leads to pollution in and around those vicinities,” Ken Ofori-Atta said.


The abolishment of road tolls, according to the Minister, takes effect immediately the Budget is approved.”

Ken Ofori-Atta mentioned that toll collection “personnel will be reassigned”
