WORLD RURAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION HELD TO PROMOTE WOMEN IN FARMING IN THE WAKE OF COVID-19.
Farmer’s Organization Network Ghana (FONG) and Rural Women German Association, the two non-profit organisations together has organized the world rural women's day celebration in the Pru West District capital of Prang in the Bono East Region to motivate the women in the rural areas in farming.
This year's celebration attracted a lot of dignitaries to the occasion including the Omanhene of Prang, Nana Kwadwo Nkarko, the Member of Parliament for Pru West, Hon. Stephen Jalula, Dr. King David Amoah also the President for the Farmers Organization Network Ghana (FONG) and also the President for (UNDP) in Ghana and Madam Gladys Adusa (PRO for FONG and UNDP in Ghana).
The theme for the celebration was "Building Rural Woman’s Resilience in the wake of COVID-19" an occasion to encourage the women to overcome all the challenges confronted them in the era of Covid-19.
Madam Gladys Adusa (PRO FOR FONG and UNDP) in her speech entreated all rural women to join the Farmers Organization Network to accrue more profits in the farming sector. Adding that, the skills and training the organisations gives to the women prepares them to accrue more income in farming since they exist to build women in the rural areas in farming and agricultural activities.
Madam Gladys, speaking to the majority of women at the celebration advised them against the LGBTQ+ saying is against our cultural values and that we should all kick against the act.
The MP for Pru West Constituency, Hon. Stephen Jalula thanked the women in his constituency for their contribution toward agriculture value chain in Pru west and Ghana as a whole.
Hon. Stephen Jalula commended the rural woman in his area for joining the Farmers Organization Network (FONG) that has supporting their livelihood with food and other farming inputs to encourage the women to keep producing to feed the nation.
The MP added that, NPP government has farmers at their heart that's why they have initiated Planting for Food and Jobs in Ghana among other support to farmers.
On his stance on the LGBTQ+ that has brought mixed reaction in Ghana, he finally stated that he will stand against LGBTQ+ because it does not conformed to our cultural values and norms.
The Omanhene of Prang, Nana Kwadwo Nyarko concluded that, his traditional area will never support the LGBTQ+ said they are in support of their Member of Parliament, Hon Stephen Jalula and believe he will vote against the LGBTQ+ right since is a bad practice which must not be tolerated in our country.
A presentation of farm inputs were presented over to some of the rural women during the celebration in the District.
