Near Stampede At Unemployment Center Brings YEA Boss To Tears.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Justin Koduah Frimpong, says he is saddened by the high turnout of unemployed graduates at the on-going Job Fair at the Accra International Conference Center.
He says the desperate thousands of youth who turned up at the job fair yesterday September 9 is a clear proof that the lack of employment opportunities for graduates in the country is alarming and needs immediate interventions to mitigate the trend.
“At a point, I felt sad. To be honest, looking at the number of youth who were there and the level of desperation that set in, then I really realized that, as an agency and as a country, we need to do more, although it is understandable that we are a developing country and year after year, a number of the youth want to join the labour market, which is why we are having this challenge.”

Mr. Frimpong indicated that, he was saddened by the development which called for urgent, pragmatic and innovative approaches to find lasting solution to the canker.
He said his outfit is therefore prepared to liaise with other stakeholders to put the agency on its toes as a means of dealing with Ghana’s unemployment situation going forward.
“But my team and I realized that it is good that we have started this job fair to partly deal with the issue of unemployment in this country. We will go back to the office to see how we can also scale up.”
Thousands of unemployed youth numbering about 3,000 on yesterday September 9 gathered at the AICC for the YEA Job Fair in search of jobs from several employers.
They were seen standing in long queues, amidst struggling to enter the room to find job with companies.
Taking lessons from the mad rush and the struggling to enter the AICC, Mr. Frimpong said the companies would be moved to the compound of the conference center today so that people could move about easily to prevent panic and possible stampede.
