A fire incident at Berekum in the Bono Region has destroyed 16 rooms, four shops, and other property running into thousands of cedis.

The incident, according to witnesses, occurred late afternoon on Friday, August 27, 2021, with the cause not immediately known.

Speaking to Adom News, some of the victims said they saw smoke coming out of the building’s roof and called the Fire Service.

But for the swift response of the firefighters, traders disclosed the fire could have wreaked more havoc than it did.

A business owner, Perpetual Amponsah, amid tears, narrated she lost everything to the fire.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Divisional Officer, Stephen Afosah said, they have begun investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire.

He lamented the rooms were not spacious enough to allow proper ventilation.

EIGHT (8) CHIEFS OF BEREKUM TRADITIONAL AREA GAZETTED AS DIVISIONAL CHIEFS IN BEREKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL. A number of eight (8) Chiefs in the Berekum Traditional Area have performed their oaths of secrecy to be gazetted as the divisional chiefs of Berekum Traditional Council. The chiefs, numbering 8, got their titles as "Osaberima" to be added to their traditional and rulership names. A high court judge, Justice Baayeh, on the 6th day of November 2018, led the chiefs to sworn in the oaths of secrecy before a certificates of recognition was issued to the chiefs as a divisional chiefs. The gazetted 8 chiefs has been granted the opportunity and right to be part of any sittings of the traditional council and by so doing, all the 8 chiefs have been approved by the government of Ghana to be part of the judicial committee of the Berekum Traditional Council.
