VIS GHANA TRAINS FARMERS IN ORGANIC FARMING PRACTICES IN BEREKUM.
The Volunteer for International Development (VIS) in Italy has on Thursday 16th July, 2020 begun a training exercise for the unemployed at Senase in Berekum East Municipal of the Bono Region.
Inauguration of the project was held at Nafa junction, a farming community at Senase to usher in 17 trainees who will be undertaking the training in the tactics, practice and mechanism of organic farming for 4 months.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Kyidomhemaa of Senase, Nana Owusu Fakyewaa appreciated the international body for their enormous support towards the livelihood of the vulnerable in society.
Adding that, this is not the only support they have been provided to the people in the area. She emphasized VIS has constructed a soap factory for the unemployed women at Senase in addition to this organic farming they have started at Nafa, Amomaso and other places in both the Bono and Bono East Regions.
The Manager of Bomosadu Rural Bank, Mr. Martin Amponsah Nyame a partner to VIS said that, the project forms part of the Bank's agro business products which the bank will support the project financially and will be giving out loan facilities to all deserving trainees who will do well after the 4 months training.
The logisticsian of VIS Ghana, Mr. Kwarteng James Wood explained that, the development organization is in partnership with institutions such as local assemblies, schools and other bodies to help transform lives through their programs. He said VIS is non-profit organization and will go all out to support the project to reduce rural urban and illegal migration among the youth. It is to again, offer organic farming techniques to locally based farmers succeed by helping the needy in the society.
The trainees were selected from the Senase community and it's environs to go through the program.
Father Richard Bossman, the Assistant Head Master of Academics at St. Augustines SHS, advised the trainees to take the training serious for other members of the society benefit from them.
One of the trainers who has benefited from the support of VIS Ghana has a mechanized bore hole drilled in her farm to enable her grow crops beyond seasons.
The trainees were provided with free boots, cutlasses, food and Covid-19 items protective equipment for protection throughout the training.
