BEREKUM OMANHEMAA APPLAUDS THE MP FOR BEREKUM EAST, HON. DR. KWABENA TWUM NUAMAH OVER THE RAWLINGS MARKET PROJECT.
The Omahemaa of Berekum Traditional Area in the Bono Region, has applauded the MP for Berekum East Constituency, Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah for his immense contribution in constructing a market for the traders at Berekum Rawlings Park who have over the years been selling their goods on the floor.
The project is almost complete as the floor tiles have been laid including the painting of the market. The Omanhemaa was however overwhelmed and not happy as the project has been subjected to a court injunction by a private investor who claims the Berekum Municipal Assembly has contracted him to construct the market under Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement. According to her, she would not accept any attempt by the Berekum Municipal Assembly and any individual to twart the development of the market under the government's one million dollars per constituency initiative which would be in the best interest of the people of Berekum.
Nana Akosuah Ameyaahene III after visiting the market therefore commended the MP for the project which has reached its final stage but, she said they will never allowed the market to be constructed under (PPP) that would give the private investor the opportunity to own the market for 23 years to the detriment of the poor traders in the town.
The project which is currently ongoing and is been financed under the Middle Belt Development Authority and the government is solely to benefit the people of Berekum due to it's affordability as compare to the PP investor.
According to the Omanhemaa's assertion, the Middle Belt Development Authority through the MP is in the process to build an extra storey building to be attached to the current market project which will soon be finished to enable all the women to get a place to trade.
The contractor of the market who is already on site as well as the NPP chairman for Berekum East Constituency, Mr. Kwaku Kamkam and the MP have been dragged to court by the private investor, seeking injunction to restrain any development on the site if any. The people of Berekum right from the start have been kicked against the PPP to be own by an investor for 23 years.
Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and also a member of Finance Committee in Parliament explained to Omanhemaa how he has the project at his heart and is in no doubt will be completed as planned to finish the market in time for the traders since most traders could not afford hiring a store when is constructed by a private person instead of government. The project when finish would boost economic activities in Berekum which will help reduce the poverty level in Berekum.
