BEREKUM EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY REOPENS TWO MARKETS.
The Berekum East Municipal Assembly has today reopened two of the three markets that were closed down yesterday. The closure was to ensure social distancing observation to take effects in the market.
Speaking to Alrich24newsgh.com this morning Hon. Kofi Adjei - the Municipal Chief Executive said, the directives to close down the markets was in line with measures put in place to allow traders observe social distancing in the various markets in Berekum.
Berekum central market, Yiadom Boakye market (Rawlings park) and Thursday Market were all not opened yesterday. Two of the markets; central market and Thursday market were allowed to resume operation after stringent protocols were agreed by the traders.
The Yiadom Boakye market remains closed after the traders did not show up at a meeting with the Covid-19 response team.
The traditional weekly Thursday Market was fully in operation today being Thursday for patronage by the public but the traders was cautioned to observe social distancing at the market.
Hon. Kofi Adjei continued that traders at the central market agreed to run their businesses rotationally that is they will be divided into groups to rotate their activities daily in the market in order to prevent themselves from spreading the virus if any.
The Rawlings market traders, according to the MCE will be monitored by the security personnel since they refused to respond to the regulations that will govern their movement in trading in respect to the fight against Covid 19.
He then called on all drinking spots and bars to observe social distancing to enhance containment and stop spread of the virus.
He explained that all other measures that will help in the fight against Corona virus should not be hesitated to be practiced, the only sure way to fight the virus.
Adding that all arrangements are set to combat the virus should there be a case in Berekum. Let us all collaborate to contain and reduce the spread of the virus nationwide.
