BEREKUM EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY REPLIES MARKET WOMEN
The Berekum East Municipal Assembly of the Bono Region, contrary to our earlier report on a press conference held by the traders at the Berekum Rawlings market has also held a press conference to respond to all the issues raised by the traders.
The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Joseph Baffour Awuah, together with the Finance Committee called the press to explain all the matters surrounding the award of the contract to a private man as Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Hon. Baffour explained that, though there is One Million Per Constituency Market sheds currently ongoing at the site which was initiated by the MP, Hon. Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah but the assembly at their general meeting on December 2018 sitting agreed to give out portion of the land for Private Public Partnership (PPP) for 104 stores to be built for the traders.
According to the PM, technocratics at the assembly and MCE Hon. Kofi Adjei met Berekum Traditional Council and deliberated on the ongoing project.
He continued that, the traditional council even proposed different projects to be constructed on the land other than stores but the municipal assembly finally settled on the construction of the 104 story building stores. The Presiding Member went on to mention names like Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo II, Naval Akosua Ameyaahene III, Osaberima Ofori Mensah, Osaberima Ansu Dartey, Osaberima Kofi Nti Yeboah, Osaberima Kwabena Diawuo Owusu, Osaberima Kyere Yeboah Dartey, Osaberima Krobea Asante Nkum, Osaberima Kofi Yeboah and many others who were all present at the meeting on 6th February, 2019. Stating that since Nananom was informed ahead of the project to be assigned to a private person, there is no way it may happen that any chief will say Nananom was not aware of such a contract.
He enlightened the press that, once the agreement was reached, a contract permit was given to the constructor to commerce it's work. He then advised the traders not to be afraid of the project as they will all have a space to sell after completion.
