BEREKUM READY TO COMBAT COVID 19 PANDEMIC.
The people of Berekum in the Bono Region are fully geared up against the deadly corona virus spreading around the globe. The virus, which was seen as outbreak in the early days, was later declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Alrich24newsgh.com in an interaction with some transport unions at the Berekum lorry station explained that, measures have been put in place to protect and prevent the spread of the virus. According to them, hand sanitizers have been put in their cars but do not have enough for those who visit the station.
In spite of these measures, they await directives from the national chapters as to how sanitizers will be provided at the station.
The PROTOA branch chairman at the Berekum lorry station, Mr Dominic Diawuo emphasized that "booking clerks have been provided with hand sanitizers to protect themselves as passengers buy tickets for their travellings".
He continued that "although there are not enough sanitizers for passengers, they have been educated and advised to adhere to the directives given by Ghana Health Service.
A visit to the Berekum Central Market, showed the readiness of the market women as they shared their preparedness with us.
According to them, they all have hand sanitizers with them and apply hand washing tips to avoid contracting the virus.
The biggest hospital in Berekum which also serve as a referral centre, Holy Family Hospital at the management meeting has outlined some measures put in place to control the spread of COVID-19 in the town.
Head of COVID-19 rapid response team at the hospital, Dr. Paa Gyasi Hagan explained that, the rapid response team have been positioned at all points at the facility to maintain high quality hygienic conditions and ensure all directives and bans are adhered to at the facility. Patients and visitors clean their hands with alcohol based hand sanitizers at all entry points of the facility.
Dr. Hagan called on those who visit the hospital to adhere to all procedures that has been put in place to prevent the spread of the virus. He continued that, only two visitors from now will be approved to visit in patients at a time. Crowding will not be allowed at the facility.
He concluded that visitors including patients entering the hospital will be questioned and tested at the entrance no matter the personality. Hand washing will also be enforced before anyone will gain access to the hospital.
In our interactions with some people in and around Berekum East and West Assemblies said they are aware of all the safety measures outlined by Ghana Health Service;
✔hands washing under clean running water with soap.
✔use of alcoholic based hand sanitizers
✔high maintenance of personal hygiene and others.
✔️covering of mouth with tissue when coughing or sneezing
✔️avoid touching nose and eyes
