Traditional leader call for payment of assembly members in Ghana


BEREKUM DOMFETE CHIEF CALLS FOR MONTHLY ALLOWANCE FOR ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

The Deputy Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Siaka Stevens who inaugurated both Berekum West District and Berekum East Municipal Assemblies has urged the assembly members to live up to the expectations of their various electorate.

Swearing in 30 assembly members of the Berekum West District as against 38 Assembly members for Berekum East Municipal, the Deputy regional minister, charged them to work hand in hand with traditional leaders, politicians and other stakeholders to enhance development of their respective areas.

Hon. Siaka Stevens in his inaugural address charged the assembly members to be united and cooperative and build the assembly to mobilize revenue for the development of the assembly.
He explained that Article 35/16 of the constitution admonish the state to promote proper participation by decentralising administrative and financial machinery of government to the regions and districts by affording all possible opportunities to the people to participate in decision making at every level in national life and in government.

The assembly has a lot of functions to performed he therefore called on all assembly members including unit committee members to work hard for the progress of the district.

He caution the assembly to avoid permits of building in water way which block the flee flow of water in the various communitiess.

In the whole the two assemblies failed to elect their Presiding members to chair the assemblies in both Berekum East and West.
On the other hand, Osaberima Kusi Yeboah II the Chief of Domfete, in his speech called for unity among the assembly members but appealed to the government as matter of urgency to institute as incentive packages for assembly members by way of payment or allowances to them nationwide.

He said if we are to compare the work of the assembly members to that of the members of parliament who are even resourced with loans can equally be given same to the assembly members in the country because most if the local works are done by them.

Saying he agrees that, the government has provided motor bikes to the assembly members nationwide but it is not enough comparing the nature of work the assembly members undertakes.

Osaberima Kusi Yeboah explained the right motivation given to the assembly members will stimulate their activities to develop the assemblies.

The announcement of the demise of the Berekum Traditional leader was done today Friday 9th June 2023 by the chief spiritualist of Berekum Nana Komfo Kofi who was asked to take care of the health of the paramount chief but on his announcement, the paramount chief could not make it but joined his ancestors. Dasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II was a doctor by profession and an active Church elder of the Church of Pentecost who serve the people of Berekum with calm and peaceful leadership who seek to maintain peace and unity after 17 years of chieftaincy dispute during his reign as the paramount chief of Berekum.
