GHANA WATER COMPANY LTD IN BEREKUM TO DEMOLISHED ENCROACHED BUILDINGS ON THEIR LAND.
The over One hundred (100) acres of land reserved for the Ghana Water Company Ltd in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region has been encroached by some citizens in the town.
The Lands Commission has intended to demolish some of the structures built on the land by encroachers. However, this has become a tug of war between the traditional authorities and the developers leading to the destruction of the new pillars demarcated by the GWCL.
Some of the affected developers claim they have titles to the pieces of land, but the Ghana Water Company is claiming ownership and hence the move to demolish their properties, is a mind blowing.
They are therefore calling for proper processes of evaluation and compensation packages for them if their properties are to be demolished by the Ghana water company Ltd.
Alrich24newsgh.com visit to the water works site in Berekum reveals very dangerous encroachments to the river body which provides water to over 62, 364 people living in the Berekum Municipality.
The Berekum Traditional Council’s Land Committee headed by Osabarima Otwakwan Kwabena Diawuo Owusu II (the Werempehene of Berekum Traditional Area) explained that, the site plan that has been agreed to be prepared by the Lands Commission is not yet ready. In the interim, the committee has spoken with the affected developers to agree for relocation and compensation packages. This is because the chiefs do not want a repeat of water challenges in the Municipality.
He said it is not a planned agenda to demolish anybody's property but for the sake of any unforeseen eventualities that may bound to occur they should cooperate with the GWCL. However, the situation has compelled the traditional authority to move for such an action, in order to preserve the river nd saves lives, as water is life.
He therefore cautioned the people to be mindful of their ways of life, especially those encroaching the water works lands for their parochial interests.
He called on the affected developers to agree to the compensation plans to allow the company to protect the rest of the land, for future water developmental projects.
