BEREKUM EAST MP TOURS CONSITITUENCY
The MP of Berekum East Constituency in the Bono Region who also doubles as the Chairman of Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuamah has embarked on a 3day tour visiting, ongoing and completed projects in his counstituency. The tour was in conjunction with his MCE; Hon. Kofi Adjei, NPP constituency Chairman; Mr. Kwaku Kamkam as well as other executives of the party.
The entourage first visited Biadan to monitor an ongoing solar powered machnized water closet toilet facility. They handed over 5 street bulbs to the town per request from the chiefs and people.
The team made a next stop at Senase to inspect an ongoing bread mills that is to help boost bakery businesses in the Berekum East. The two Assembly members in the community with the Traditional leaders requested for an expansion of electricity power to the newly sited areas. They also requested for the evacuation of a refuse dump in the area which has been a sanitation threat to the people.
Hon. Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuamah thanked the community for their support and promised to honour their request.
Mpatapo, Kutre 1, Kutre 2, Mpatasie, Akrofo and Atonotia, Thursday Market and Yiadom Boakye Market were all visited with a warmth welcome from the chiefs and people of the respective communities.
Ongoing solar powered water closet toilet, with mechanized bore holes under the one million per constituency initiative were inspected at Mpatapo and Mpatasie.
Some of the constituents at Mpatasie raised concerns about the bad nature of roads linking the community to Berekum township.
Hon. Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuamah pleaded with them to remain calm as the long awaited Sino Hydro project will soon commence.
Street bulbs were distributed to all the communities visited to be installed in all the various towns to overcome dark streets and the environment.
At the Akrofo clinic, the MP and MCE promised to build a new toilet facility for them and uplift the lighting system there. They also inspected a completed kindergarten block at the Akrofo primary school.
On education, they visited the Berekum SHS newly constructed boys' dormatory block and Berekum Presby SHS to monitor a completed 6 unit classroom blocks which is under the emergency class blocks the government is giving in support of the free SHS policy.
The team was welcome by the Principal and staff of the Berekum College of Education. Mr. Prince Yeboah Marfo who is the principal announced that the school is currently among the best 5 colleges of education in the country inspite of challenges faced them. He said the school lacks accommodation facilities which has impeded their enrollment making it impossible to admit more students. He continued that the school received over 4000 applicants this year but only 500 students were admitted due accommodation issues.
He expressed that some of the GETFUND projects under construction has been abandoned by the contractors and called on the MP to intervene for the completion of the projects.
Hon. Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuamah thanked and motivated them to keep on working hard and assured them of helping complete the abandoned project in the school.
The Thursday market under the one million dollar per constituency which is being paved with blocks was also inspected. The market women called for speed up on the ongoing project to enable them to use the place.
Construction of market sheds at the Yiadom Boakye Market were also inspected. Traders at the market who are currently trading on the streets pleaded for works to speed up. They requested that the stores around the market be constructed by the assembly instead of going in for Private-Public-Partnership (PPP) as announced. Their worry is on the high charges that will be quoted if constructed under the PPP therefore a plea that it goes under the one million dollar per constituency.
